Dr. Dre's son, Andre Young Jr., died from an overdose of heroin and morphine, the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday.

"This case has been closed, it's been ruled an accident due to morphine and heroin intoxication," coroner spokesman Larry Dietz told PEOPLE. The drug test results had been pending for four months.

Young, 20, was found unresponsive by his mother, Jenita Porter, 40, in their Woodland Hills, Calif., home on the morning of Aug. 23.

Paramedics pronounced Young – who was remembered by friends as an optimistic young man – dead at the scene.

Porter told investigators that her son had been out with friends that night, and she recalled hearing him snoring around 5:30 a.m.

"Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son," the rapper's publicist Lori Earl previously said in a statement. "Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time."

well it didnt necessarily say he was a long time user..just that he accidently died....but honestly...i dont give a fuck...he aint my son

i just know if i died of what was being called 'a heorin and morphine overdose' i would hate for people to think i was unhappy..i just took one dose too much apparently...and smarter people have done the same

did your experience with people dying of heroin (or anything in the opiate family) make you feel that way? or was that a blind comment?

dying accidently of opiate intoxication is possibly one of the saddest ways to die besides suicide and drowning in a tub. i feel sorry for anyone its happened to....and i cant even make a fucking joke about walking in the room and seeing your son blue and not breathing.

ive been sympathetic of these deaths lately because its been an accident....RIP to Pimp C, Screw and anyone elses life thats been taken much to early..
