Roadside dope tester on the way

Look out all you stoners and dopers, because the cops could soon wield a handheld device that detects your favorite controlled substance. Spit into this little plastic test tube, and you're busted — any cocaine, heroin, cannabis, amphetamines, and methamphetamine you might be partying with is no longer a secret.

Phillips, a company that makes TVs and all kinds of other techno-stuff, created this sophisticated dope-a-lysing device using nanotechnology, with a clever use of electromagnets and nanoparticles that can separate the sober from the impaired. After 90 seconds, the verdict shows up on a color-coded readout.

Philips hopes to roll out this privacy-invading drug tester in Europe by the end of the year, perhaps destined to become the next tool in the loathsome War on Drugs in the United States. My suggestion to Phillips: Create a gizmo that detects texting while driving.

Here's the problem... They need a "cause" to pull you over (yeah right). Then they'll need a "cause" to test you. If you just put out a blunt you're fucked anyway, but if your car doesn't reek of weed what excuse are they going to use to test you?

If you have a scrip for vicodin, and that shows up on the test but you don't have your scrip with you, they're going to arrest you? This doesn't really make sense to me. Seems like there are too many variables for this to ever fly.

Keep in mind this is America.

I wouldn't put it past them to just pull you over for any random shit like they do now like a tail light being out and then claiming you're under the influence.

And if you don't have your scrip on you, you have to prove somehow that you have one. And just cause you have a scrip of vicodin, doesn't make it legal to drive under the influence of a narcotic. :)

That's like saying because someone has a medical marijuana card they can drive while smoking and it's okay, which we all know it's going to get your pulled over and arrested.

Well they're going to have to teach everybody the new laws all over again, because I don't know what is legal or illegal as far as prescription drugs and being in public. Like... if I take an oxy for a real back problem, can a cop give me a ticket for walking down the street because I'm under the influence in public?

It just seems like such a big change that it will cause more confusion than anything.

Funny you say that cause I was talking about that with my boy yesterday. We were talking about weed though.

I think it's mainly when you cause a disturbance and disrupt the peace.

I've never been fucked with walking down the street high, drunk, or otherwise. ONLY SOBER. No joke.

But, I'm pretty sure that driving under the influence of narcotics is not legal. Although they probably have some loophole that makes it okay for prescriptions. Even though that's fucking stupid.

Cause I've got a friend who broke his back and got pulled after he took 3 vicodin. They didn't do shit, he had his bottle on him.

But I have friends who have medical marijuana cards, and they aren't even high, just driving back to their spot with some dro and they get fucked with for like an hour.

It's all left up to how the cop wants to treat you, not what the law REALLY IS.

Citizens need to start putting cameras and recorders in their cars to catch cops doing bullshit.

By the way, as a citizen of this fabulous country it is YOUR responsibility to know ALL the laws and abide by them.

But FUCK ALL THAT! lol
