LOS ANGELES -- Rapper Coolio has been arrested at Los Angeles International Airport for possession of narcotics, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The grammy-winner rapper, whose real name is Artis Levon Ivey Jr, was found with narcotics and taken into custody at LAX Terminal 1 at 10:38 a.m. Friday, according to a Los Angeles police spokeswoman.
The 45 year old rapper was transported to the Los Angeles Police Department's Van
Nuys Station for booking, according to a police representative, who declined to
elaborate on what "illegal substance" was involved.
Police officials say he will be booked for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, an additional misdemeanor charge.
Witnesses at the scene, who did not want to be identified, say Coolio was busted for crack cocaine while going through security before boarding a Southwest Airlines flight.
Coolio rose to fame in 1995 with the hit single "Gangsta's Paradise", which appeared on the soundtrack for the film Dangerous Minds.
He has since appeared on several reality TV shows, including "Celebrity Fear Factor," and hosted the online program "Cookin With Coolio."
