A new survey published in Game Informer's print edition indicates the Xbox 360 failure rate has climbed to a shocking 54.2%. The magazine surveyed nearly 5000 readers, asking them about their experience dealing with broken consoles.

Here are their findings:

Console failure rate

Xbox 360 – 54.2%
Playstation 3 – 10.6%
Wii – 6.8%

Percentage of console owners who suffered a second hardware failure after the original repair.

Xbox 360 – 41.2%
Playstation 3 – 14.7%
Wii – 11%

Percentage of people who rate their customer service experience "very helpful"

Nintendo – 56.1%
Sony – 51.1%
Microsoft – 37.7%

Percentage of respondents whose friends have had console hardware failures.

Xbox 360 – 69.9%
Playstation 3 – 12.4%
Wii – 6%

The magazine also makes a few notes about their results:

The reason the Wii has the lowest hardware failure rate could be because console is played the least of the three. 41.4% of Wii owners surveyed said they play the console less than one hour a day, meanwhile the majority of Xbox 360 (40.3%) and Playstation 3 (37%) owners say they play their console on an average of three to five hours day.

Also, only 3.8% of respondents said they'd never buy another Xbox system because of the failure rates.

I got all 3.. But my xbox is pretty much unplayable right now because the 2 red rings flash every 15-20minutes into a game.. I'am really glad i bought my ps3 when i did, because my xbox probably would've taken a shit on me if i didn't give it a break lol

well it's not like Micro$oft is known for releasing quality products, in fact it's quite the opposite so it's expected. But still, 54% is absolutely insane. Again, any other company they would go under but luckily for them they obviously have the money. Which sucks for the users because in the end it's you that's getting fucked - Microsoft is selling a clearly broken product and quite honestly isn't doing shit about it (besides allowing people to trade it in or be repaired provided it's under warranty) rather than say fix the damn problem.

^^^On top of it, why would i pay for a repair (since its not under warranty) when now i dont even trust that it will stay working? im just gonna keep paying for a broken product? I like the system, when it works, its like, should i just buy a completely new xbox rather than pay 100 bucks for a product thats not guaranteed to work?

You would think they would have the money to put together a good system. I dont know how well Microsoft rates in terms of quality but considering these new generation videogame systems are like a computer you would think they wouldnt have such a high failure rate for these 360's

surveys like this can be very biased tho. becuase the people who would respond to this survey would more then likely be someone who has had console fail, rather then a person's who console didnt fail. the peoples system that fucked up would want everyone to know bout their system dying. the peoples system that still runs fine they dont feel as obligated to answer that their system is working fine becuase they are satisfied with it.

and out of all those who failed, only 3.8% wouldnt buy another xbox system. thats minimal. you figure if they surveyed 1000, and 542 failed then only 3.8% of that 542 people wouldnt buy another xbox system which is 20 people out of 1000.

i love how till the end some ppl will defend the 360... even with its horrible build quality... i had one and gave up on it... i still have it but have no real use anymore for it.... microsoft is shady as fuck... given the games are good but they put out a shitty console, it just isnt worth it...

reasons i let mine get dusty....
