i know that first hand. but just because some organization makes a favorable assesment, doesn't mean she is correct. this guy knew what he was talking about and she didnt like it. he wasnt ready for a seasoned arrogant liar like her. that was evident.

*edit*
Japan, Germany’s ally, did attack Pearl Harbor in Hawaii killing americans. her saying no attacks were made on u.s. soil during world war II are false.

the comparison of guantanamo bay was made against belgian jails. the organization did say holding people for many years without telling them what would happen to them is a form of “mental torture”, something we are doing. the bush administration, including rice, are guilty of war crimes and should be charged.

Get the fuck off this charging with war crimes shit.

Nice fucking waste of effort by the left right now.

We might as well put all our efforts into forcing Bush to take philosophy classes at a local JC. Or maybe like an eco-friendly form of the common hug.

i guess you are okay with the double standard this represents. we cant be trusted if we allow our leaders to violate the law without reprucussion. what message does this send to other countries including our allies?

Its all bullshit. Its a waste of time.

The CIA do torture. They're the CIA. Any other major intelligence agency does the same thing. This is the dumbest shit ever.

No. 9/11 was a unique time. George Bush was a unique idiot. Those two together make for unique occurrences. We asked for a redneck, gun lovin war president and now we wanna snivel over how he conducted himself.

Will America carry out mass torture? Extremely unlikely. How important is it to try and zing Bush for enabling torture-like interrogation techniques on possible terrorists? It will do absolutely nothing other than waste time.

It will be the liberal version of the Clinton impeachment. We have the war in Iraq, healthcare, the environment, poverty, unemployment, education issues, and people cant get a fuck better idea than putting time and energy into something that will never happen.

With any other major inteligence agency do you mean The Mosad and the MI6?and it's not just that torture is inhumane it has bean proven to be a very bad metheod ,people will admit to anything under torture so the intelligence that they gather are basically worthsless.the torture seems to me has just been a way to get people to admit to things they are not guilty of so they can keep this fake war on terror running.

you sound like you work for the bush administration. i'm not saying you are wrong. but if a normal american breaks a law, let's say he was robbing banks to feed his family, does the law bend to satisfy him and his actions because he had a good reason? it's the double standard that is being displayed here that needs to be addressed. unfortunately money dictates the law of the land and this may be a waste of time and resources. i cant disagree with you there. but it still doesnt justify the bush administration's blatant abuse of power throughout their tenure.

^^you say that the US and their image is harmed, which i agree with. you would think that they would gain criticism from other countries, have we received that anywhere? any quotes? any evidence that shows pressure externally? or is it our own criticism that is creating the greatest pressure?

I was in Afghanistan last year and I talked to people in southern and eastern provinces (Helmand, Kandahar, Uruzgan and Paktya). Even people living in medievil conditions in small villages told me that american troops tortured them when operating in those areas. Males were filmed naked and laughed on and shit like this. It's not like afghans never heard of human rights. They might not have the same point of view towards lifestyle or religion but they know very well that their human rights were violated by americans. One thing the americans MUST learn is to respect peoples traditions. The people I talked to were outraged by the behavior of the american troops. Afghans are not resistant to modernisation or democracy but they have to become aware of their backwardness. There is an afghan proverb, we say: an afghan may be coaxed to hell but not forced to heaven. As long as americans treat afghans like shit and behave themselves like BOSSES afghans will fight them. Til the last ones left ;)

Great post. It's well known that the American mentality fosters absolutely ill relations especially with regard to our troops (which personality type attracts people to sign up as soldiers in the first place?). Even a recent state Dept. memo said that the occupation was greatly hampered by a lack of understanding of basic Iraqi culture and society. America is essentially a giant island when it comes to understanding and valuing other peoples and cultures.

I believe this, though, is separate from the choice of the CIA to use torture or torture-like techniques. Any major global player can and will always have all options on the table. I don't think if we were faced with a full-scale conventional war on the United States landmass people would be making the same ruckus about torture. This is the situation that the misled Bush administration felt we were in post-9/11.

UN expert criticizes US torture decision

VIENNA (AP) — An Austrian newspaper quotes the U.N.'s top torture investigator as saying President Barack Obama's decision not to prosecute CIA operatives who used questionable interrogation practices violates international law.

Manfred Nowak is quoted in Der Standard as saying the United States has committed itself under the U.N. Convention against Torture to make torture a crime and to prosecute those suspected of engaging in it.

Obama assured CIA operatives on Thursday they would not be prosecuted for their rough interrogation tactics of terror suspects under the former Bush administration.

Nowak also says in the newspaper interview published Saturday that a comprehensive independent investigation is needed, and that it is important to compensate victims.

I dont even want to play partisan politics here but I gotta say some people are fucking delusional.

Nancy Pelosi for moons now has been crying over torture and bluntly stating she was never briefed on the subject at any time, saying she had no idea it was going on but then the truth comes out showing how big of a liar she actually is and people want to talk about Rice and completely ignore pelosi's ever growing nose?

this must of been what you were talking about in another thread. pelosi is another person. the only reason i posted the rice video is because i came across it and thought it was amusing a college student had her on the hot seat at an event i would figure was to celebrate her appearance.
