A Clayton man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder charges after he ran over a security guard three times as he and a friend fled a wild and drunken melee outside Clayton Valley Bowl this week, police reported Friday.
The victim, a 50-year-old man who patrols the parking lot outside the bowling alley, is in stable condition at John Muir Medical Center, said Concord police Lt. Steve Dyer. He is expected to survive his injuries.
A fight broke out about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday involving several people inside the bowling alley at 5300 Clayton Road and then spilled out into the parking lot.
Clayton residents Roger Parkinson, 24, and Christopher Fraulino, 25, started kicking parked vehicles, and a group of men began chasing them, Dyer said.
The pair first fled in a pickup truck driven by Parkinson and then returned, speeding toward the crowd talking to the security guard, Dyer said.
"All of a sudden the truck is coming toward the crowd and everyone scatters. The poor security guard couldn't get away," Dyer said. "You should have seen the size of the truck -- it's amazing he survived."
Dyer said Parkinson ran over the guard, hit a pole, put the truck in reverse and ran over the guard a second time. Then he put the truck in drive and ran over him a third time, Dyer said.
The driver was attempting to flee the scene when he hit a another pole hard, this time disabling the truck, Dyer said.
Police used a dog to track Parkinson and Fraulino to a nearby residential neighborhood.
Dyer said Parkinson was found hiding in a tree in a backyard and was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and felony drunken driving. Fraulino was found walking on another street casually as if nothing had happened, Dyer said. He was cited for two misdemeanors, evading police and vandalism, and released.
