ok...as of late ive had clients...repeat clients that a value and new clients who are coming to me w/ corny concepts or played out concepts...

how do yall balance 'the customer is always right' vs 'i gotta put my name on this'?

im lucky to have a lil power in my area to persuade them from dumb shit cuz i work both sides of the artwork...design & retail...so im able to give a client both sides of the coin...

but ive flat out turned down work cuz of the concept...

please give me yalls suggestions and experiences...

simple don't put your name if your not proud of it

I've learned that most of the time if I do what the client asked for and show them a sample of my ideas they tend to go with my ideas. That happened with revamping sosouth.com he wanted me to keep his old logo. so I plugged it in with the new layout I got going on then opted back to the simple 2 minute design I did. The revamped site should launch in a week or 2

but then there is time when you can't bend the client in those cases give them what they want get paid and just never show the work to anyone and don't put no Designed by: on it

I've had clients ask me to straight bite stuff as much as I hate it I gotta eat

keep doin whatchu do
have pride in your work

as long as you break yourself but dont get yourself broke, yadig?

if it gets to the point where its down right hurtin your pockets then open up to some of those dumb ass concepts
until then ... keep your standards cuz youre quality is through the roof

i feel u on that tosin, i seen a episode miami ink where a client came to the the shop with a concept of a design and the tattoo artist flat out told him that it wasnt gonna look right and convinced him to change it up. to a certain extent u half to meet the customer half way but if u know flat out that its not gonna look right and u plan to use that project as part of your portfolio, then turn it down. but like the other dude said...get your money and dont even put your name on it!

Normally what I do, I'll take there vision and do it my own way. Some people are cool with that because they trust my judgment and the sole reason they come to me is because they are a fan of my work. The ones that are set on the gaudy, bland and wack shit I'll do it and won't put my name on it, at the end of the day its all about that paper and my sanity as an artist.
