No. 12 Boise State at San Jose State
This may not seem like a big deal to anyone else, but to BSU, it is huge. SJST almost ruined their perfect season back in ’06. If the Broncos win out, and Utah takes a loss, they will be in great position for an at-large BCS bid.
No. 8 Texas Tech at No. 23 Kansas
Kansas has slipped last week against Oklahoma and TTU is sitting in the top 10, with many skeptics saying they many not belong there. Kansas is in the driving seat of the Big 12 North with Mizzou losing back-to-back games. They found a good running game against Oklahoma, and should be able to continue that trend against a loose TTU defense. This could be one of those AFL games, or one of those high-MLB scoring games.
Boston College at North Carolina
BC may have gotten jipped from the BCS standings, instead getting picked over by FSU, even though BC defeated #17 VT last week. BC is tied with FSU, Maryland, & WF for the Atlantic division lead. Although this will not affect that, beating UNC could boost them into the BCS rankings come
Monday.
No. 4 Oklahoma at Kansas State
Oklahoma on defense looks a bit lost without Ryan Reynolds, but there is no doubt about Bradford and the offense. They stroll into Manhattan to face Josh Freeman and a KSU team that has struggled mightily on defense this year (minus the CO game).
No. 7 Georgia at No. 13 LSU
This game is solely for BCS rankings, as both are in different divisions in the SEC. LSU got revenge at SC after getting embarrassed by Florida, and Georgia just keeps on rolling.
Virginia at No. 18 Georgia Tech
Virginia looked like one of the worst teams in the nation only a month ago. Now, with Peerman back, they look like a brand new team and are now 4-3 with a victory over then #18 UNC.
Virginia Tech at No. 25 Florida State
VT has to go into Doak Campbell stadium and try to knock off an improving offensive team in FSU. Ponder had his best game of the year last week, in a victory over NCST, although FSU’s defense looked exposed to the run for the first time this year. VT scored almost all their points on defense, and will need to muster some offense if they want to win this game.
North Carolina State at Maryland
NCST looks much better with Wilson at QB, but their defense is lost without Nate Irving. Maryland continues to be a bi-polar team and it is a mystery which one will show up at home.
Colorado at No. 15 Missouri
Mizzou has lost two in a row and look to bounce back against a disappointing Buffs team. Mizzou is one back in the loss column in the North, and need to keep on winning in hopes of a Kansas loss. If not, the showdown will be set for Mizzou/KU in a few weeks.
Notre Dame at Washington
Pretty much just a homer pick, but ND visits Ty for the first time since he was fired. Clausen continues to improve and impress, while UW is the only FBS school without a win this year and has one of the worst defenses in the nation. If youre not a fan of either team, you may want to skip it.
No. 5 USC at Arizona
USC has pitched two shutouts in a row and AZ lost to Stanford by one point last week. Don’t expect a shutout this week, as Arizona can put up points and USC needs to impress the BCS committee in hopes of reaching the NCG.
GAME(S) OF THE WEEK
No. 6 Oklahoma State at No. 1 Texas
For the second week in a row, another huge showdown in the Big 12 South, as Texas will have their third ranked school in a row. OKST knocked off Mizzou last week and will look to shock Texas and possibly spoil their NC hopes.
No. 3 Penn State at No. 9 Ohio State
This is basically the Big 10 title right here, as the winner will be in the running for the RB and possibly the NCG. OSU’s defense is looking mighty stout and PSU came from behind to score 32 straight points against a struggling UW team last week. The Horseshoe will be a-rocking come Saturday evening!
