No. 1 USC at Oregon State
No, this OSU is not the OSU Buckeyes, but that may not change the outcome of the game. OSU has played much better after losing to Stanford, and playing at Reser stadium may help in their crusade to upset the number one ranked team in the land. USC will look to continue their roll to the NCG by defeating OSU.
Maryland at No. 20 Clemson
Clemson to this point has underachieved greatly, and Maryland has played
like most expected. The Terps looked horrible in their first two games, one being against an FCS team, but have finally show some life that last two. A win for either team would keep them or put them undefeated in a wide open ACC race.
Northwestern at Iowa
NW is 4-0 for the first time in a very long time and the Hawkeyes are coming off a lose to a disappointing Pitt team. The Big 10 is wide open, as no one has played each other yet (this is opening weekend for Big 10 conference play).
North Carolina at Miami (FL)
Unfortunately, Yates is out for the next 6 weeks for UNC, which is a huge blow to this team. This would give the advantage to Miami and their young, explosive defense to do what they please to the backup. If either Cameron Sexton or Mike Paulus can get the ball in the hands of Tate, then their chances of keeping it close are much better.
No. 25 Fresno State at UCLA
This is a redemption game for both schools. UCLA suffered its worse loss in over 80 years against BYU and FSU barely lost to a tough Badger team at home. The Pac-10 has looked atrocious against OOC foes this year and would like to get this win over a WAC school. FSU is may be out of the BCS bowl race, but they can still win the conference.
No. 24 TCU at No. 2 Oklahoma
Oklahoma is coming off a bye week, where TCU snuck itself into the AP Poll. TCU has won its last two games IN Norman, and both teams are in the top 5 in the nation in scoring margin (UO – 40.7 [2nd], TCU – 35.7 [5th]).
No. 13 South Florida at North Carolina State
NCST is BAD. But is USF any good? They narrowly escaped UCF and are trying to assert themselves a s a legit top 25 team. If that is the case, then beating a hobbled Wolfpack team should be easily handled.
No. 22 Illinois at No. 12 Penn State
An intriguing matchup among Big 10 elite teams. PSU looks real good on both sides of the ball, with the QB role being filled nicely by Daryll Clark (165 passer rating) and one of the best receivers in the land in Jordan Norwood. Juice Williams leads the attack for the Fighting Illini, who would like to move up and prove that they are better than their embarrassment in the Rose Bowl last year against USC.
Virginia Tech at Nebraska
VT is young and down this year, but Tyrod is undefeated since his move to QB. Nebraska is still trying to find themselves, as they have nearly fallen off the face of college football the last few years, along with FSU, UM and UW. It is never easy to play in Lincoln, and they are undefeated, even though their competition hasn’t been spectacular.
GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 8 Alabama at No. 3 Georgia
Alabama is better than expected and Georgia keeps slipping in the polls, even though they went into Tucson and handled the Sun Devils. The SEC will begin to take shape over the next few weeks, as some of these juggernauts begin to pound on one another (Currently, there are 5 SEC teams in the top 10).
