Kansas State at Louisville
KSU is one of those bubble Big 12 teams that can only improve the look of the conference this weekend. Louisville is on a down slope of a rebuilding transition, but is playing at home and could knock KSU back down towards the bottom of their division.
No. 21 West Virginia at Colorado
Colorado, much like KSU, is in a transition year and can either bubble, or fizzle. WVU comes in after having a week off to think about their poor performance to a rising ECU team.
Troy at No. 13 Ohio State
Why is this here? Well, OSU struggled against hapless Ohio and got completely washed by USC. Troy is better than Ohio, but not in USC’s league. OSU at home will say that they should win, but with a hobbled Beanie Wells, anything is possible.
No. 15 East Carolina at North Carolina State
Although NCST is one of the worst teams in the nation, ECU almost tripped up to Tulane last week, and has to go into a tough environment to try and come up victorious. They are only behind one other BCS Buster in BYU, so every win…and by as much as possible…is vital. They will have to do it without Quentin Cotton, losing him to a knee injury last weekend.
No. 4 Florida at Tennessee
Bit SEC West match up here, as Tennessee is still licking its wounds from the loss at UCLA…which turned around and lost 59-0 to BYU, which makes the loss sting even more. Florida is trying to make it through their schedule unscathed, as they try and make a run at another NCG.
Boise State at No. 17 Oregon
Oregon looked a bit lost last week at Purdue, but pulled out a hard-nosed victory. BSU is looking to win the WAC, and a win in Eugene would most certainly give them a boost into the top 25. However, BSU has never beaten a BCS team on the road (Oklahoma was a neutral site, technically). Roper is out 2-4 weeks for Oregon, so Jeremiah Masoli and true freshman Chris Harper will share time at QB.
Notre Dame at Michigan State
The Notre Dame watch is still on, as they are 2-0 and go into East Lansing to try and coral Javon Ringer and his NCAA leading 9 TD’s. Notre Dame’s offense still looks a bit sluggish, but the defense and special teams have picked up the slack.
Miami (FL) at Texas A&M
The U seemed to stimy Florida for about 3 quarters, with a young, fast, and gritty defense that looked like the Miami we are all used to. The offense, however, is a different story. With no identity, they need to figure something out to score some points. A&M bounced back from a losing effort against Sun Belt’s Arkansas St and a near loss to MWC’s New Mexico.
Vanderbilt at Mississippi
Vandy is on the up after starting 2-0 and Ole Miss is still wondering how they let an upset of WF slip away. A win here would not only boost the confidence of one of these teams, but put them atop their respected division in the SEC.
No. 3 Georgia at Arizona State
ASU was upset last weekend, being 1 of 7 teams to lose in the Pac-10, and 1 of 5 to the MWC. Georgia narrowly escaped a mistake riddled SC team in SC, and hopes to have a better outing against what maybe an overrated ASU team. UGA is trying to prove to everyone they belong in the top 5 and a win here would help solidify this.
GAMES OF THE WEEK
No. 6 LSU at No. 10 Auburn
Auburn only needed 3 points last week to beat last place Miss St, and may need only that against LSU. The SEC is having some offensive difficulties this year, and this game could be more of the same. LSU has a transplanted QB from Harvard that is still learning the offense. The winner of this game will take a lead of the SEC East.
No. 18 Wake Forest at No. 24 Florida State
Is FSU FINALLY back? They have beaten up some real poor Div 1-AA teams and hope to carry over some of that offensive prowess over to a big early season matchup with WF, who is the highest ranked ACC team in the AP Poll. WF dodged a bullet against Ole Miss and brings in the best QB in the ACC in Riley Skinner. He will see a young and fast defense, that will still be missing a few people from suspension that was enforced before the season began.
