Even if they promo the shit out of the album, you honestly shouldn't expect Cognito to do decent numbers. I could just be looking in the wrong places, but he seems to be a relative nobody in the music business. That's nothing against him, or even a knock, because even Krizz could fit that label.

Tech is the only one on the label that truly moves units. It takes the other artists months to do half the numbers he puts up in a week. Strange has a core of fans that will likely pick up his album strictly because of the Strange logo on the back. 2,500 is a reasonable bar for Automatic.

They seemed to "promo the shit out of" DAAM, by pushing out the three videos, and Lynch was getting mentions and interviews on some music hotspots like AllHipHop and HipHopDX. But even with that, and his own "core fanbase," it's looking as though DAAM did less than 9,500 this week. I don't see Cognito out performing Lynch.

The snippets not being out shouldn't be at all surprising. DAAM was the exception to the rule, as the snippets for other past Strange releases don't tend to turn up until a week, week and a half out from release.

we all believe they need better promo in MN and probably other states
I remember when it was basically me and you running the MN promo. there were very few record shops in minneapolis and the north metro that were not plastered with tech flyers and posters. not sure who is running things now, or where they are dropping stuff at, but i haven't seen hardly anything in years. hell, the only way i can get my hands on a physical copy of a sampler is at a show.

Yea I dont see as much promo online or otherwise, not to mention most of the ppl into Cognito are out west, and even then he doesn't seem like THAT big of a deal. So aside from the few Strange die hards and his west coast fans, I see Cog's sales being pretty low in the beginning, then picking up when he's on the Strange Days and (hed) pe shows. They say his live shows are hot, so that, coupled with him kicking it with fans and the positive word-of-mouth from that, should help boost sales.

I wouldnt mind seeing a fall tour with Lynch, Potluck, Cognito, Mars and Kung Fu Vampire. All west coast acts reppin the so-called underground.

To clear some of this up, the promo for Brotha Lynch is a lot different than promo for Cognito. I have talked with MANY industry people about this project and his pre-orders are ABOVE AND BEYOND expectations.
Second, promo for a new artist is done different than a lynch or Tech. Strange is RIGHT on schedule. They do this on the regular. Too early to doubt this machine. And 2,500....trust me, it will do more than that by far. Cog has a fan base that reaches farther than just one group of fans. Thats why Mike Mosley, Master P and now Strange and Tech have signed him. The only difference is Strange is getting behind Cog 100% more than any other label has in the past. Cog has a very diverse fan base, wider than a lot of people know. He will be just fine.
Last, talking with Cog & Strange, the 2 big tours coming up will REALLY launch Cognito's promo and cd sells. I know this for a fact. Time will tell.

There were a lot of "more than you know"'s in that.
I don't know how much you deal REALLY with this label but I have worked within the label with many of the staff. Not to mention the buyers, producers and industry people I deal with. I have been in the game over 30 years and have made some really good connections and relationships with the people I work with so YES there is a lot of info that I have got over the last month regarding not just this album but about a lot of upcoming albums and artists.

I got to chill with Cognito for a few hours last night, he let me listen to some tracks from the album. I gotta say I was impressed, every song he showed me was fucking sick IMO.

so, you're kinda old for a message board.

Unless you were kicking up dust in the halls of music labels a wee lad.

I apologize on behalf of any opinion you find yourself reading from me that might anger you.

I assure you this is not intentional, and for all intents and purposes it's easier just to ignore me if you don't like me.

Though I will tell you you'll be in the tenth percentile of people I've met that didn't like me, though I am readily prepared for such.
