The compilation has played an important role in today’s rap scene. The idea of having different rappers from different areas representing on one album has changed the face of both the independent and mainstream. The diversity gives the listener a chance to hear each unique rapper. In an area that has been known to release a number of compilations each year, some good and some that didn’t even deserve to be out, a few have reached the classic status. Compilations like “17 Reasons”, “Isolated In the Game”, and “Bay Area Playaz” have set themselves apart from all the others with top quality music and production. In my opinion, the best compilation has to go to “Mac Dre presents The Rompilation”. Check out my review:

1)“Menage Tios”- PSD. Produced by Johnny Z and PSD. A perfect song to start off the album. PSD comes raw and the beat matches him perfectly. I was diggin that high-synthesized noise throughout the song. 20/10

2)“LA 2 da Bay”- Mac Dre, Da Unda Dogg and the 5 Footaz. Produced by Mac Dre and Da Unda Dogg. I wasn’t feelin this song at first but then it grew on me. I liked Coolio’s verse the most. The 5 Footaz were ight, didn’t really do anything out of the average. 8/10

3)“What We Do”-Da Unda Dogg, Mac Dre, PSD, Dubee, and Mac Mall. Production by Mac Dre and K-Lou. Tight ass posse cut. Each hold their own. I can’t remember where the beat was sampled from. 10/10

4)“Gumbo”- Mac Dre, JT the Bigga Figga, Da Unda Dogg, and Dangerous Dame. Produced by Stevie Dee. Another tight song. The only verse I wasn’t feelin was Dangerous Dame. Beat was nice and lyrics were dope. 10/10

5)“Shady Times”- Web and Mac Dre. Produced by K-Lou. Pretty dope gangsta cut. Mac Dre rips it up again. Web seemed average, nothing spectacular. 7.5/10

6)“Maggots On My Glock”- Manni Mannish and Mac Mall. Produced by Manni Mannish. One of my top three favorite songs off the album. Manni and Mall both came tight. Beat was off the hook. I was impressed with Manni’s lyrical ability and lyrics.8/10

7)“Playa to Playa”- Mac Mall, Mac Dre, and Da Unda Dog. Produced by Coolio. Dope song. All three rappers make a good combination. Both lyrics and beat were above average. 10/10

8)“Uninvited”- Da Looie Crew and Mac Dre. Production by Stevie Dee. Alright cut. I was only liking Mac Dre’s verse. Sampled the “Five minutes of Funk beat”.7/10

9)“Twist Of Funk” Tic-Toc and Dave C. Produced by Coolio. Didn’t like this song at first but then it grew on me. One of the rappers has a funny ass voice but he made the song worth listenin to. 8/10

10)“If It Ain’t Real”- Messy Marv, Da Unda Dog, Seff Tha Gaffla, Naked, San Quinn, Juggy, and Mac Dre. Produced by Coolio. My second favorite song off the album. The beat was off the hook. Marv, Quinn, and Dre rip it up. I didn’t really like the other rappers in it for some reason. Nevertheless, dope ass song. Favorite line: “ My cousin Kelly on the phone with Julio, Damn who made this beat it’s my nigga Coolio.”20/10

11)“Back 2 Da Basics”- Da Unda Dogg. Produced by Coolio. First track I didn’t like. Beat was coo but the chorus was annoying. 5/10

12)“Ghetto World”-PSD and Mac Lee. Produced by Johnny Z. Self explanatory song.
Average overall. 7/10

13)“Dirty Money”- 187 Fac, Mall, Dre, and Coolio. Produced by Da Unda Dogg. Another superb song. I was surprised with the 187 Fac. They came raw. Dre and Mall had the best verse. 9/10

14)“Colder then a Blizzard”- Doscha. Produced by K-Lou. Didn’t like this song at all. 5/10

15)“Where We Dwell”- Playa Jay Tee, Beesh, and Mac Dre. Produced by Beesh. TIGHTEST SONG ON THE ALBUM. Perfect beat and lyrics were top notch. Favorite line: “I’m prolly getting head while you’re playin this.”20/10

16)“Skyin Higher”- Young Lay, E.B, and Mac Dre. Produced by Coolio and Mac Dre. Excellent way to end the album. The only person I thought ruined the song was E.B. Lay and Dre came dope as usual. The beat is knockin. 9/10

“The Rompilation” is a solid compilation from beginning to end. The production on this album was done extremely well. All the rappers blended well with the beats whether it be slow or up-tempo. I highly recommend this cd for your collection, you won’t be disappointed. 9/10

I like just about the whole album I agree with most of what you said but I thought t#6 wasnt really that tight and that Colder than a Blizzard is actually pretty sicc.. Quinn riped it up on #10 I agree that it deserves a 20/10.. I can play that whole song all day.. I agree about Back 2 Tha Basics i didnt really dig it that much.. Good Review

yea Romp 1 was definitely classic shit. The production used quite a few samples, but they were well done. And you couldnt go wrong when you got the whole crest on the album, PSD, Dubee, Mac Dre Mac Mall, Young Lay, that shit was ground breakin when it hit the scene. It had to be one of Mac Dres best selling releases. Id give this a 10/10.

I personally think the best Bay Area compilation ever to be released was WEST COAST BAD BOYZ VOL.1.. It gets no better than that.. The Rompilation was koo, but it mainly gives the listeners that Romp Sound! WCBB on the other hand dishes out flavors all over the bay area. That's Classic!
