SAN DIEGO -- A drive-by shooting killed a 17-year-old boy and wounded the teenage girl he was hugging Tuesday night.
The couple had just left the girl's home at about 10 p.m. in the 4000 block of Marlborough Avenue in City Heights, police said. While they were hugging, a car drove by and somebody fired at least one shot, hitting both people, according to investigators.
A witness called authorities.
"I looked at them and saw the girl bleeding," Oscar Hernandez told NBC 7/39. "I saw the guy grabbing his chest, so I called 911 automatically and told (the victims) to lay down in the grass."
The teenagers were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where Adrian Acosta died from his wounds. The 16-year-old girl is expected to survive, police said.
Witnesses described the car used in the shooting as a dark-colored Honda or Toyota sedan with custom wheels and tinted windows. Anyone with information about the shooting should call homicide investigators at (619) 531-2293 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-TIPS.
