MILWAUKEE - Disorder after a Celine Dion concert?
It happened Monday night in downtown Milwaukee.
It started out as a Celine Dion concert, filled with love songs and ballads, but it ended with the police being called to a parking ramp across the street from the Bradley Center.
Traffic backed up. People waited in their cars. Rage set in.
People agree Celine Dion's performance was fantastic, but as the crowd tried to leave the parking ramp across the street from the Bradley Center, the trouble started.
Surveillance video shows cars leaving. The issue: one lane of traffic moved much slower than the other. A worker stood by to help, but in some cases, it took minutes for each car to leave.
After an hour of waiting, rage set in closer to the top of the ramp.
“They got out of their cars and were shouting and waving their fists at each other, calling 911, and in fact one car came driving down the ramp at a good rate of speed with its horn blowing,” Phil Vollrath said.
Vollrath and his wife watched the disaster unfold after the concert.
In the middle of it all, Wonda Olisen hit another car in line because someone tried to cut her off.
“It was a terrible situation. I don't want to be in that situation again,” Olisen said.
The accident turned in to more shouting.
One woman even dialed police saying people were pounding on her vehicle.
Olisen's nerves, and everyone else's, unraveled.
“I don't know what kind of changes they can make to make it easer,” Olisen said.
The city says things were working normally, even though we see a delay caused by one of the parking machines. They blamed the delay on a full parking garage and don't plan to make any changes.
The parking garage was designed with exits on three sides, but only one side was open Monday night to prevent congestion on the street. That certainly contributed to the backup.
