How long does an average project take?
and if your backed up a few projects.
Whats a reasonable time for your client to wait for his/her project to be finished ?
If your unable to meet this projected time, do you offer money back or compensate them in anyway?

EDIT: Im not looking to get a project done, just going over scenarios and wondering what yall would do for the client if he/she was unhappy.

It depends on the client... a good client that is feeling your work a couple of hours and your good to go...

A pain in the ass client could be weeks.. poor communication... never happy with design... always wants changes... new ideas... etc.

Never Refund.... don't work for free.. at least make them pay half up front.... I didn't and got shafted several times.... learn from my mistakes.... if you don't meet the deadline due to their nonsense it ain't your fault don't offer shit....

numba2stunna pretty much nailed it.

I almost posted a similar topic a few weeks ago because I was starting a cd project for a local artist. I found info elsewhere. Ended up getting half up front. Thankfully my first client is easy to please. My second which was a business card, was way easy. They loved it so much I didnt have to change shit.

Graphic design is nice like that. You can kinda of be demanding and clients go for it because they know that designers are very helpful.

Yeah it's nice when you have a client like that loves your work, lets you do your thing.... but the ones who are a pain in the ass.... the ones that won't listen to your thoughts on a design and only want what they want.... they get what they want even though it looks like shit and your not proud of the product... it really sucks but that's the business....

What about if the tides are turned and your the client.

Some details:
My boy set up to get a cover done in may was told 3-4 weeks because of previous projects, He gave him 1/2 down. waited .......still aint got anything, and he's (Thought he was a respectable designer) anyways dude been avoiding emails/myspace messages the past 2 weeks.

guess we should of stuck w/ Upheaval..

Just wanted to get local thoughts on what they would do for a client.

If the guy hasn't done any work it is different... either he is going through something and cant do it or he is just flaking out and don't feel like doing it... either way that's just wrong not to communicate with the client especially if you already got paid half up front.

It only takes a few minutes to reply with an e-mail if even that long...

Thanks nick, not really looking to get more than 1 answer, what you said is enough for me IMO. another designers agrees. perfect.. The designer DOES post on siccness, not sure if he's posting in the art forum, but if he is and knows its him, by seeing what others do or would do might help him appreciate his business a little more. I heard he was put on blast @ a show this past weekend, so we'll see if that helped any.

again thanks for your replys.
