In a recent interview with Sportinglife , WBO super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe spoke on several opponents he wants to face in the future.

The short term plan appears to be a possible unification bout with WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler - if a bout with WBC/WBO middleweight champ Jermain Taylor falls through. Calzaghe's top priority for September is still Taylor, but Kessler is the second option. Calzaghe said that his promoter Frank Warren is in talks with the promoters of both fighters for possible future bouts.

"Kessler is a good fighter. Frank has been talking to his promoter over the last few days, trying to do something with him," Calzaghe said. "But I think that fight may be six months or more down the road. Kessler is not a big name in America. He's had a couple of good wins but in his last big fight he beat Markus Beyer, who was shot. We can go down the Kessler road but Taylor is the one for me."

One man he is not interested in fighting is former champion Roy Jones, Jr.

"Roy Jones doesn't interest me because he's been knocked out too many times," Calzaghe said.

Instead, he would rather face Jones' rival - Bernard Hopkins. More than any other fighter, Calzaghe would love to face Hopkins. He is targeting the winner of the upcoming July clash between Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright. He feels Hopkins should win because Wright is just too small.

"Hopkins would interest me. Hopkins won his last fight against Antonio Tarver so he's still a formidable opponent. He looked good against Tarver but he's 42 and he can't go on forever. The winner of Winky Wright and Hopkins could be my opponent for January," Calzaghe said. "They're fighting in July and I think they'll put on a good show, but Hopkins will be too big for Winky Wright."

Retirement is a subject on Calzaghe's mind. Three fights against three big names and Calzaghe is done.

"I'd like three more fights, all of them against big names. Two years ago I said I'd have three more fights. Three fights later I want three more. Whatever happens, I want to go out at the top, that's for sure."

Honestly Calzaghe NEEDS to fight Kessler first, but with that being said I'd love to see Hopkins/Calzaghe. I think B-hop would show him what American boxing is really about.

If that doesn't go through I'd even like to see Calzaghe/Taylor because I honestly believe Calzaghe would fuck Taylor up and I really want to see Taylor get his ass beat.

Opinions?

^ I agree. I would actually like to see Calzaghe and Kessler fight on US Soil. Which would be neutral for both, since they both don't seem to want to give the other 'home court advantage' Although I don't know how much of a draw that would be to fans here, being that neither Joe or Kessler have much of a fanbase here.

So, I think either a Winky - Joe C or a B-Hop - Joe C would be more realistic. Especially after Taylor's stock dropping from that lackluster performance Saturday. Taylor & Co. are demanding all of this money, and I don't think HBO is going to give it to him.

B-Hop would school Joe so bad, he wouldn't know what hit him. B-Hop owns southpaws, and I think he would dominate Joe. I'd really like to see that.
