...ok... so I'm hoping some of y'all can help a girl out... the computer I currently have is old as all hell... is still running Windows 98 and just up and shuts down when it feels the need... soooo I've decided to get a new one.. I just dont know where to start...

What are some of the MUST HAVES to look for when I'm shopping around..? Pentium this and hard drive that.. lol.. its irritating to even think that I'm gonna go up in one of these stores and some fucktard is gonna try to bullshit me into buying a set up I dont need or thats wrong for me...

I would like to be able to watch a movie on my PC if I so desire.. I work with a lot of pictures and graphics.. I dont ever burn music but would like the ability to do so.. Word processing and spreadsheets all day long..
I want more than enough space so I dont have to upgrade anytime soon after buying- lotsa storage space....
I dont really need the monitor because I have a 20 in flat screen already but I'll do the package thing if thats the best way to go....

..soooo.. if someone can drop helpful hints, Do's and Donts, etc.. that would be lovely and much appreciated.. also- if you'd rather shoot the info to my email.. that would be cool too..

Your not gonna be able to buy just the tower thing, its either the whole thing or nothing unless oyu have your computer built for you. Or plan on buying the most expensive computer system in which case they will then sell you just the tower. I would say go with an

Athlon XP processer 3Ghz with 512MB of ram this will take care of your not wanting to update it for a while
100GB hardrive or higher will do you good for having plenty of space
make sure it has a DVD/CD-RW drive. This will allow you to play Dvds and burn CDs with the CD-RW drive. Most of the time the dvd player and cd burner are 1 drive with both features built in. I hope this helps.

As far as graphics you want somethign with say a Gforce 3 or 4 with at least 256MB of ram bulit into the card. This will make your pictures look really nice.

^^^ya i got ya. I got a 4MP cam and a graphics card with 256MB of ram and boy does it make a difference. And the difference between a mac and a pc is, a mac is way better for doing graphics work. Looks a shitload better. Macs are way easier to use as far as finding shit and using it. On the down side its hard as hell to find mac products as in cards for it or games or even software. This is due to the fact its a mircosoft pc world lol. might help to look for a computer with built in card reader also. I have it and it makes a huge difference. Now i know your askin yourself what the hell is a card reader. This is what you would use to put your memory chip in from your digital camera to get the pictures on the computer easier. Simply slide the card into the card reader slot for the type of memory you have it the pictures will show up as a seporate hardrive all you do is click it and open em and save em. Sounds hard but its really easiy.

Listen.....Go get you a HP computer with microsoft XP media center edition. These pc's come with the appropriate hardware and software to do all the shit you want with reguards to media. Music, games, pictures, audio, TV and vidio. I got that shit and its dope. You can watch cable TV on your PC and record the shit right to your hard drive. You get a remote control, DVD/CD burner with all the software built in to the operating system. I've had mine for close to 2 years now and im still shittin on alot of folx when it comes down to it. I got 2GIGs if ram and 200GIG hard drive. Check out tiger direct online. Also google XP Media Center Edition. I got mine along with a refurbished 18'' flat screen for $1300. Well worth it. Get that you'll like it. Really though if you know what you want and what your doing the best bet is to build your own comp. If you are on a budget and want something coo', just swoop a DELL. They're straight for the paper. Hope that helped.

Thanks... I was just checking out what Dell is doin' right now... and up front they look like a smashin' deal... but you get to selecting certain things... lol.. I ended up going from their "Deal of the Century" for $398 to a $1500 machine...

But I'ma look into what you've suggested...

So ,,, XP is the way to go? not 2000 or NT or whatever else be floating around out there..?

Look for a PC with an Athlon(AMD) processor rather than a Pentium. More bang for your buck! HP has great deals on PCs, much better than Dell.

I used to work for Best Buy in PC sales so I recomend not messing with the whole sales person thing. Mac's are awesome but pricey. If you already have a flat panel that's ok, you do not have to go with a package. You might get a package deal rebate that looks good, but it takes months to get your money back into your pocket. To save money go with an AMD ATHLON processor. I'd recomend getting at least 512 mb of memory ( RAM) and at least 80 gb of hard drive space which is decent for a good music collection/ photo archive. Most likely your computer is going to come with XP Home edition (NT never ships with a consumer pc and 2000 is just older). Dell has a better warranty deal. BEST BUY WARRANTIES ARE ONLY GOOD FOR LIKE 5% OF PURCHASERS.
