I detect a break between each party with the failed Gay Marriage Ban in the Senate. The Republicans could have all voted with Bush and easily passed it but they didnt. Why do you think that is? Maybe there are a few Republicans who can see how bigoted Bush really is.

Its one issue, but hopefully the rebel Republicans and the rebel Democrats break away from their useless parties and make a new & improved party.

nobody expected this to pass. this was something to take a little of the spotlight off of iraq while bush can cater to the religious right extremists without actually having to put through a law he fully understands is ridiculous.

The strange/funny thing about the Bush candidacy is that no matter what he does, he is pretty much guaranteed his staple of votes. Bush has presided over many huge fuckups in his time, yet the political fallout has been little to none among his constituents.

If I was a Republican I would ask for a new, more intelligent, more versatile, younger candidate to be presented and for Bush to step down. That's what cracks me up about people asking Cheney to be released. Cheney is the brains of the operation...how could you possibly support Bush having a new vice president. He'd be like a chicken with his head cut off.

From what I read, they needed 60 votes and only garnered 45 Republican votes. I think that is more than "a few liberal Republicans" who didnt go with the flow. Seems like the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is diminishing in numbers, if not ideology. I sense the extremism in the Bush's platform is driving voters and representatives away (i.e., gay marriage, embryonic research, anti-abortion stance)

I also agree, Bush has as much teflon protection as Reagan in his hey day. His base of support sticks with him through thick and thin. He deserves that much credit.

The timing for this vote is no accident. It was never going to be passed. Everybody (in the political world) knows that no one in congress is going to make a bold sweeping change to the CONSTITUTION (whether for or against gay marrige). The Bush admin. will use this to further leverage support from his rightwing evangelical backing b/c of his staunch ardent views against gay marrige & support for family values. He can also bash the left for not supporting his views on this subject. Even though he himself is a bafoon of an idiot, every move he & his admin make are very well calculated...

You guys act like a few Democrats didn't vote for the bill either (and they did).....Come the fuck on. This wasn't a vote on the bill anyways, it was a vote to proceed with the conversation about the legislation. Get it together.

Since the title to this thread is Bush v. the Republicans, no one is discussing the Democrats. That would be a separate thread, feel free to start it.
Get it together? We're just staying on point buddy.

This is a non-issue. Either it passes or it doesnt, but you guys are acting like the Bush Admin. is sitting in the war room, pacing back and forth, wondering how to get the "heat" off of them. But this is not it and never was it. This is simply a way to flush everyone out and see where they stand. Like we're really going to amend the constitution in an ELECTION YEAR? ......Come the fuck on.

and there are only 51 Republican Senators so that means 6 Republicans voted against, to me that isnt very many considering the Dems also crossed over and voted for it.

i doubt it.
