LOS ANGELES – Sultan Ibragimov is ready to put his unbeaten record up for grabs against the WBO Heavyweight Champion, Shannon Briggs, on Saturday, June 2nd at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ.

The high-impact 12-round showdown is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Seminole Warriors Boxing Promotions in association with Caesar’s Atlantic City, Nafta Moskya, Golden Grain, CSI Sports, Global Advertising and Main Events. The fight will be shown on Pay-Per-View and begins at 9:00 pm ET/ 6:00 pm PT.

Ibragimov is one of the hottest talents in the heavyweight division, and experts as well as his Russian supporters believe he has the ability to beat the current champion in this long-awaited match up. The championship fight was originally scheduled for March 10, but was postponed after Briggs suffered from an pneumonia.

“We’re confident that Sultan Ibragimov is the next heavyweight champion of the world, and we’re eager to see him beat Shannon Briggs and put the championship belt around his waist,” said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya.

“He dominated Javier Mora with a quick 46-second knockout in the first round of his last fight, and we know he is ready for his fight against Briggs,” continued De La Hoya.

A 2000 Olympic Silver medalist for Russia, Sultan Ibragamov (20-0-1, 17 KO’s) turned pro in 2002 with a first round knockout of Tracy Williams - in fact, his first four fights ended in opening round victories. He won the WBO Asia-Pacific title in October of 2004 with a third-round knockout against Najee Shaheed. He defended that crown six times.

He has also defeated former world champion Al Cole and contenders Lance Whitaker and Zuri Lawrence.

Tickets, priced at $300, $200, $150, $100 and $50 are on sale and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations and Boardwalk Hall box office.

LOL, if the Sultan wins, the heavyweight belts will belong to the following:

Wladimir Klitschko IBF

Oleg Maskaev WBC

Sultan Ibragimov WBO

Ruslan Chagaev WBA

^^I'm not a Briggs fan by any means but he does have 47 wins and 42 KO's, pretty impressive record, imo

Looks like Mike Tyson will be in Ibragimov's corner....

Tyson applies for license, for Ibragimov's corner

Mike Tyson has applied to work the corner of heavyweight Sultan Ibragimov during his WBO title bout against Shannon Briggs on Saturday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Tyson sent an incomplete application to the New Jersey Athletic Control Board - the government agency that governs boxing in the state - on Tuesday and will need to answer two more questions before he is considered for a license as a second in the undefeated Russian's corner.

The former heavyweight champion has been an unofficial adviser to Ibragimov in the past and attended Ibragimov's December 15, 2005 knockout of Lance Whitaker.

The application left blank which boxer Tyson was applying to assist, and whether Tyson knew of any medical conditions affecting the fighter.

Nicholas Lembo, counsel for the NJACB, said there was still time for Tyson to be considered for the license if he quickly refiles a complete application.

"We have not considered any action on it because it is incomplete," Lembo said on Wednesday. "It was simply returned for completion. Once it is submitted in complete form, there will be a consideration of the application for a license."

Tyson needs permission by a judge to travel outside Arizona and California while his drug charges are pending.

^ LOL...thats a trip.

You know, I read that Briggs is hella fired up for this one, because Sultan's people said that it was fear that made Briggs back out of their first scheduled fight, and not an injury.

I like when the fighters hate each other. It makes it more entertaining.

He is really the one american heavyweight taking on the Soviets, so don't be surprised if he wins. If he does win, I'm sure he will be dubbed the "the Soviet Killer" or "USSR assassin" or some funny shit like that to hype him up a bit, since it would be his second soviet beating in a row, lol.

Although I seriously doubt he could fuck with Klitchko though

Actually Briggs already has the WBO heavyweight belt (soviets have 3, americans 1). He took it by KO'ing Serguei Lyakhovich (soviet) in the 12th round back in Nov.

Nah...nobody's fucking with Klitchko. His combination of size, power, and boxing know how make him pretty tough to beat. I thought that he was en route to beating Lennox when they fought, except that he had a big ass gash in his head.

We'll see if he can return to form. He's definitely the better of the brothers tho.

Well, that didn't last long, lol:

Permission Denied For Mike Tyson in AC

NEW YORK -- Mike Tyson does not have permission from Arizona authorities to travel to Atlantic City, N.J., and work the corner of heavyweight Sultan Ibragimov during his WBO title fight against Shannon Briggs on Saturday night.

Tyson must get approval from a judge to travel outside of Arizona while drug charges against him are pending. Maricopa County officials never approved the former heavyweight champion's trip to the fight. However, Tyson is being allowed to attend his daughter's high school graduation in Washington on Friday.

Tyson sent an incomplete application to work as a second in Ibragimov's corner to the New Jersey Athletic Control Board on Tuesday.

"I contacted Maricopa County on assurance he was going to be completing the application," Nicholas Lembo, counsel for the NJACB, said Thursday. "I was told he was not given permission by the county prosecutor to travel for this event."

Tyson has been an unofficial adviser to Ibragimov in the past and attended Ibragimov's Dec. 15, 2005, knockout of Lance Whitaker.

"Sultan gets confidence when he sees him," said Mario Costa, one of Ibragimov's trainers. "Before the Whitaker fight, in the dressing room, Mike was showing Sultan what to do and Sultan was excited he would do that."

Last Thursday, Tyson was allowed to leave Arizona for addiction treatment in California. He faces charges of drug possession and driving under the influence of drugs following an arrest in Scottsdale last year.

Attorney David Chesnoff said Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens has allowed Tyson to travel outside those states if he gives three days' notice and gets approval from county prosecutors.

Ibragimov Dethrones Briggs!
By Rick Scharmberg and Kurt Wolfheimer at Ringside
Sultan Ibragimov, of Rostov-na-Donu, Russia, handily defeated defending champion Shannon Briggs, of Brooklyn, New York to take the WBO heavyweight crown in front of 5,132 fans last night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Ibragimov was outweighed by 52 pounds - 273 to 221 - but took advantage of a massive, yet lethargic Briggs, out-boxing him over the twelve round distance by the scores of 119-109, 117-111, and a much too close 115-113. The nine-bout card was presented by Seminole Warriors Boxing, Golden Boy Promotions, and Main Events, in conjunction with Caesars Atlantic City.
