Lance Briggs and Bernard Berrian have California roots. Could both Bears free agents end up in the Golden State next season? At least one NFL executive expects the San Francisco 49ers to land Briggs this off-season. As for Berrian, the Oakland Raiders appear to have an eye on him, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

An NFL executive believes impending free agent Lance Briggs will end up with the 49ers this offseason.

The Niners were close to acquiring Briggs at October's trade deadline, but the sign-and-trade agreement was nixed because Briggs was the Bears' franchise player. Briggs is a sideline to sideline outside linebacker in Chicago, but would play inside in San Francisco's 3-4 scheme.

damn if we got him, and paired him up with lawson and willis, that would be absolutely sickening!

Look for Redskins to target Chicago's Briggs in offseason

Monday, Jan 7, 2008 9:57 am EST
Lance Briggs

Citing league sources, the Washington Post reported the Washington Redskins will actively pursue Chicago Bears free agent linebacker Lance Briggs. The Redskins attempted to trade for Briggs last offseason.

Washington's will also needed to restructure the contracts of top veterans to make them more salary cap friendly. The Redskins are $20 million over the cap but according to numerous league sources who have studied their situation, the team can still create ample cap room by reworking the contracts of veterans such as Portis, tight end Chris Cooley, tackle Chris Samuels and linebacker Marcus Washington. The Redskins annually renegotiate 10 or so contracts and this year appears to be no exception.

They would like more youth along the offensive line and in the secondary as well, but have tempered their sweeping pursuit of free agents.

ChicagoSports.com is reporting that two Chicago Bears free agents, Lance Briggs and Bernard Berrian are looking to possibly get back to California. The place both are from. Infact one NFL executive expects the 49ers to land Lance Briggs. The 49ers were said to have tried to engineer a trade for the Pro Bowl linebacker before this season’s Oct. 16 trade deadline, but league rules prohibited the Bears’ franchise player from signing a long-term deal with another team. As for the talk regarding Briggs and San Francisco he is hardly discouraging it.

“I would hope the 49ers are interested, as well as other teams,” Briggs said Friday. “It just tells you that you are valued around this league.”

Don’t forget the 49ers signed Nate Clements to a long term deal the following year after a trade didn’t happen between them and the Bills.
