Also, something to note is that the undercard will feature Yuriorkis Gamboa. He will in fact fight TWICE THIS MONTH on ESPN.

If you don't know who he is, check him out, because you will know the name in the future. This guy is a Cuban professional boxer, who as an amateur, won the Flyweight Gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, after which defected to the United States. As a pro he's 8-0 with 7 ko's. This guy has a ton of natural talent, he's fast as fuck and has alot of power. Check the below video to get an idea, this guy is going to be a star

for real. I like how he's fighting twice this month, now that is old school and the true definition of staying active.

Although I don't know much about his personality, he seems like the typical Cuba defector, bling bling, groomed eye brows, etc. but like I said, I don't know much about him.

Gamboa needs to learn to keep his hands up more often; that was a glaring point I noticed in that video. Not bad, though.

yea, true. but he's young. Plus he's got that cat-like reflex seen in certain fighters, like a young roy jones or joan guzman, these guys have (or had) such good reflexes that they can get away with keeping their hands low, cuz they never got hit anyways.

That's his bait. His counters are extremely fast and accurate. You can tell both Solis and Gamboa are serious prospects by the fact that they are getting matched up with real competition at under 10 fights a piece. Where as Yan Barthlemy (the other Cuban defector from those Olympics) has been matched up with soft opposition and hasn't looked all that great in with them. Gamboa also has a ShoBox fight scheduled for April and was supposed to fight Freddie Norwood on the Malignaggi/Ngoudjo card.

hell yeah Darnell Wilson built his career in the baltimore, dc, area. He is cool as hell I met him back in 2002, I always knew he would be a house hold name by now but it looks like it's taking him a little long to do that

Let me know what you think of Solis 2-0 or anyone else that peeps it. I've been following these guys since I heard they defected. There's so many amateur cuban boxers that I wish would be allowed to fight professionally but can't due to fucking politics. I also can't rally behind Casamayor anymore ever since that horrible performance against Santa Cruz followed by the even more horrible robbery.

I have a few other fights by them but they're a little bigger. I'll throw them up later.

Yeah I feel you about Casamayor, but I never liked this guy for some reason (hated him against Chico).

And I agree, Cuba has a ton of great fighters that most of us will never be able to see. It's a shame, fuck the embargo and fuck US policies.

Did anyone catch these fight tonight? Shit was kind of uneventful considering how hyped I was for this FNF. Gamboa ended up having to pull off the card and his fight was replaced by two journeyman LHWs going at it in what was a fairly decent fight then the Wilson/Flores was fairly boring with neither fighter landing many punches (in fairness this is the fight that needed to happen for Flores to stay undefeated.) One judge somehow managed to score the fight 118-110 though for Flores which is just fucking nuts.

Darnell never really utilizes a good jab. Flores while keeping it boring did exactly what he needed to do to get a name win. "Win today impress tomorrow" .. Flores could try to get slick and stand in there with a lesser puncher. There's no reason to stand there and trade punches with a guy that has that kind of power.
