Currently, the belt holders are:

WBC - Oleg Maskaev 33-5 (26 KOs)
WBA - Ruslan Chagaev 23-0-1 NC (17 KOs)
IBF - Wladimir Klitschko 48-3 (43 KOs)
WBO - Sultan Ibragimov 21-0-1 (17 KOs)

On Saturday, Klitschko faces Brewster. Assuming he wins, he will face the winner of the October 13th fight, a unification bout between WBA titlist Ruslan Chagaev (23-0, 17 KO, #4) of Uzbekistan and WBO titlist Sultan Ibragimov (21-0-1, 17 KO) of Russia.

So, the winner, will have all of the belts (the ones that matter anyways).

I think boxing really needs this to happen. No one fucking cares if there are four heavyweight champions, and it certainly doesn't help that they are all from the old Soviet Union. But, a unified champion (hopefully Klitschko) will bring a lot of attention back to the heavyweight division as well as legitimacy.

I'm pulling for Holyfield. That's my favorite fighter of all time so I hope he gets one more title shot. I think he deserves it.

Where the fuck is Rocky when you need him? The unified title is long over due. We needed this when boxing was prime, right now not too many people care which sucks.

Not exactly true. The De La Hoya - Mayweather fight was probably the biggest sporting event of our generation. Broke all kinds of records.

Its just that there isn't much for US fans to cheer about in the heavyweight division, and to be honest, the talent level isn't what it used to be either. Most of the best fighters now are in the lower weight divisions.

I´ll be watchin Klitschko vs Brewer on Saturday night
I think Klitschko will win it easily, Brewer´s last fight was 18 months ago and he even lost it, so don´t look good in his books.

You think so? I haven't seen enough of him really say..
They used to show him a lot, back when he was in the same camp with Abdullaev. He basically made his name at first, rolling with Abdullaev, then MA lost 2 (Clottey and Cotto) being another top prospect to become a let down. As soon as that happened, they stopped showing Chagaev fights in the US. I think his last fight in the US (televised) was with Rob Calloway (43-3), who he completely dominated. The guy is a beast. Nickcnamed the "White Tyson" Hits harder than the other heavies on that list, with semi fast hands for a heavy. Built like Rahman, but a lot more accurate with his punches, and much cleaner combos. Ever since that, he has been fighting in Germany and a couple in Austria. Last two names on his record are Ruiz and Valuev.

I know he wouldnt be the favorite, but I think if everyone brought their A game he would come out on top.

I wouldn't call it the biggest sporting event of our generation.. Probably the biggest Pay Per View sporting event, but it doesn't equal the Superbowl or the World Cup (worldwide) or the World Series.

However, this can't be anything but good news. It'll bring the spotlight on one guy instead of having it as a jumbled mess, and hopefully it's Klitchko, because people actually know who he is.

Too bad there's not any good American Heavyweights right now.
