LOL thanks for the info I don't know shit about keyboards but I really want to learn to play one. I have FL and it's boring as fuck, I want a real physical keyboard where I can really play some music. I don't know shit about how to make some beats on FL neither, it's too complex for me. Is there a tutorial somewhere?

Good lookin out folks, ain't a midi controller the same shit as a keyboard? I think I might get one of thems. What do you recommend I get? A keystation maybe? Also, which one do you recommend that's under 2 bills?

Bumpus told me about them m-audio midi controllers and there was one on sale for like a bill somewhere but I lost the link it was awhile ago.

Ok I found the link Bumpus gave me. It's the M-Audio radium61-key MIDI usb-controller. The one on M-audio MRSP is $260. The link Bumpus gave is, the price is only $170. What do you think of this controller? Here's the link, Bumpus told me to becareful cuz he said the site might be shady.

moments later, found out pcconnection no longer has those in stock:

ok I think I made up my mind, gonna get the M-Audio Radium 49, for $150 w/free shipping at samash.com : http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?SKU=MRADIUM49

Or should I fuck with the Evolution MK-449c for an extra $50 w/ free shipping?

i heard that both of them were good...i was gonna get a Radium49, but was low on funds so i picked up the Oxygen 8...the M-Audio Radium 49 is similar to the M-Audio Oxygen 8 that i have, just that the Oxygen 8 is a 25-key controller...never used the Evolution MK-449c, but i've heard good things about it...

Right on. The radium49 didn't get too good of a review from users, it got an overall score of 4.9 out of 10 from a site, they was complaining about the weight of the keys or some shit. "feel is very important to me"

Also have you made any beats with the oxy8? If so can I get a sample? And what program/sequencer do you use on your PC?

I got the Evolution MK449, and it serves me superbly. The knobs & faders are especially usefull for tweaking VST's so you don't have to fuck around with a mouse. It's also got a handy LCD screen which the M-Audio doesn't have.

If you're on a budget definitly go with a controller & try to get ur hands on as many VST's as you can.

^Good lookin out folks, thanks for the info. BTW wtf is a VST??? Is that the instrument sounds? I pretty much have my mind set on getting the Evolution MK-449C, do you have any beats made using the EVO? and can I hear a sample? Also what software do you use to play it?

Well a MIDI keyboard has NO sounds in it. It's just like a computer keyboard you use to type with, it has no use on its own. It is used to 'control' things within the computer. thus why its called a Midi Controller.

And yes VST's or Virtual Studio Technology are virtual instruments that you can play using your keyboard. You load them into your computer and then play them. I don't have a soundclick or any music up on the net yet tho, and I use Cubase SX to sequence. But you can use it with any software, Reason, Fruity Loops etc...

^no you cannot use VXTS within reason, reason is pretty much a VXT itself eventhough they don't call it one.

I use a Keystation, it serves its purpose i guess I got it cuz it was only like a 100 bucks. somethink like one of those radiums would be alot tighter if you got the cash for one.

For a good quality controller keyboard, check out the Studiologic line by Fatar. Their "synth action" boards have a great feel as well as their "weighted action" boards. You can pick up a SL-161 for about $150 on ebay.

What one must remember also is that for playing VST's in real time you'll need a decent soundcard.. Any soundcard that supports ASIO is fine.. The cheapest ones probably are M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and E-MU 0404 both ~100$

Without an ASIO-soundcard playing VST's is rather annoing 'cos everything you play on a keyboard comes from the speakers with a notable latency....
