Blu-Ray players have two lenses inside them, one for reading BR's and the other for DVD's. It looks like the DVD lens has become 'ionised' probably from DVD discs with dust on them.

See what you need to do is go down to the beach and get you some sand. Open the disc tray (or if it is a slot, hold it open with a spoon) and pour the sand into the player. Plug the player in, turn it upside down and switch it on. Switching it on causes the fan to spin for a split second which is enough to drag the sand through the player and de-ionise the DVD lens. Your DVD's should now play as normal and the sand will be removed from the player by the fan through normal usage. Hope this helps.

No, the problem is the ionised dvd lens, you need something abrasive that will de-ionise the lens, I know that craft stores sell sand, and pet stores where they have fish supplies, either of those will work, salt will probably work but Ive never personally used it, but I know for certain if you get your hands on some fine (small grain) sand from the craft store it will work.

It may work however I don't think it will be much different to the normal passage of air through the player via the fan. You could try your nearest DIY store/ garden centre for sand or as Southern Comfort has said above, salt may be a good substitute for sand.

^^ Yeah, Nine2Five is right about the fine grain/small grain sand.. It should be easy to find at the places he has suggested, especially craft stores cos kids like to make beaches by putting glue on a sheet of paper then sticking sand to it lol ;)

back to best buy it is...
good looken out
No problem bro. For future reference, the advice about the sand also applies to games consoles or any other machines and instruments which utilise a lens to read media.

EDIT: After reading Nine2Five's post it appears you are going to best buy to return the player? I thought best buy was a craft shop and you were going to buy some sand lol (the joys of being from the UK and not knowing what the fuck you americans are talking about lol). As Nine2Five has said, they will most likely give you the same advice we just have, don't waste your time.
