State narcotics officers made the largest heroin bust in San Mateo County history Tuesday, arresting a man linked to a violent East Palo Alto street gang with ties to Mexican drug-trafficking organizations, the attorney general's office announced.

Seventy pounds of heroin worth about $7 million allegedly was found hidden inside the dashboard of Adam Alfonso Herrera's Lincoln Town Car, a press release from Attorney General Jerry Brown's office said.

Herrera, 27, is a Mexican national who lives on Sacramento Street in East Palo Alto, the release said. He is a known associate of the Sacramento Street Gang, and has prior arrests for domestic abuse, kidnapping and providing false information to a police officer, the release said.

Agents from the state Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement served a search warrant on his car and residence and found a small amount of heroin in the house, in addition to the heroin stored in his car, according to the release.

Herrera was arrested and booked in San Mateo County Jail on charges of possession of heroin for sale and possession of a hidden compartment. His bail was set at $5 million.

State investigators could not be reached late Tuesday for more information.

East Palo Alto police focused on dismantling the Latino "Sac Street" gang after an alleged member was accused of killing Officer Richard May in 2006. Earlier this year, during a bust of a different gang, police said they had been successful

in their efforts against Sac Street members, showing statistics indicating that major crimes committed by the gang had dropped almost 20-fold.

County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said in his more than three decades with the district attorney's office, no heroin seizure has come close to the 70 pounds found Tuesday.

"There's nothing comparable with this in our county, ever," Wagstaffe said.
they just showed this on nbc bay area news. showed a video of the the whole shabang. I bet junkies were drooling on that shit.

Where is sac street? midtown? who they affiliated with?

yeah that amount was kinda surprising to me.

the authorities do pick up multiple pounds of negro in santa cruz almost weekly though. mostly from the salvadorian gangsters that try to run the drug trade in the flats neighborhood. all bad for them though lol cause they get executed right when they get deported back home :hurt::hurt:

Police were searching for leads Wednesday afternoon in the killing of an 18-year-old East Palo Alto man, apparently gunned down while walking near his home.

At about 12:40 p.m. police responded to a report of multiple shots near the intersection of Bay Road and Laurel Avenue and found a small crowd surrounding the victim, East Palo Alto police Capt. Carl Estelle said at the scene.

Paramedics arrived and attempted to perform first aid to no avail, Estelle said. Officers found at least three casings at the scene, and authorities were looking for a green vehicle witnesses reported speeding away from the area near the time of the shooting.

"At this time we don't know if it's gang-related or not," Estelle said. Menlo Park police were assisting in the investigation, he added.

The San Mateo County Coroner's Office hadn't released the man's name Wednesday afternoon, but 22-year-old Setavia Meacham said the victim was her brother, Paris Meacham.

She said her brother attended Redwood High School and had played football as a child. He turned 18 on July 20, she said.

A large number of family members and friends waited behind police tape for news, some wailing and crying out as the victim's body lay nearby. They described him as a quiet person with a good sense of humor.

"He was a nice dude," family friend Shawnie-Bo France said, noting that he ran into Meacham the day before with a handful of job applications.

"He was

trying to get it right," France said.

Setavia Meacham said she didn't know why anyone would want to hurt her brother, who was "a family person."

"It's just the streets, street life," she said. "It's not safe."
