hey homie I dont wanna get this thread to start being a place where ppl ask "how much should this cost" but I have a little nephew that wants a schwinn for his cumpleanos. well I got one for him and stripped the paint (it wasnt the original paint it was hella fucked up paint) and this homeboy told me I should get it powder coated. now the question is how much should this run me, if you know. I only have the frame, fork and the chain gaurd? I dont know shit on this matter so wanted to know if you could give me some info on this shit. Gracias in advance. and what are the advantages to having it powder coated over painted?

I'M NOT TOO SURE WHAT THEY DO WITH LOWRIDER BIKES...AS FAR AS POWDER COATING...I DO KNOW THAT THEY PUT POWDER COATING ON THE SPOKES IN WIRE RIMS, FRAMES AND ENGINE PARTS....I DON'T THINK POWDER COAT IS AS SMOOTH AND SHINY AS A PAINT JOB THOUGH...IF YOUR GONNA DO UP A LOWRIDER BIKE I'D THROW A NICE PAINT JOB ON IT FOR SURE BRO...HAVE EM THROW SOME CLEAR COAT AND MAKE THAT METALLIC SHINE UP......BUT YOU MIGHT WANNA GET A BETTER ANSWER FROM SOMEONE THAT KNOWS MORE ABOUT POWDER COATING AND BIKES...I'M NOT SURE HOW MUCH THAT WOULD RUN...BUT IF SOMEONE HOOKS YOU UP WITH A PAINT JOB IT SHOULD RUN YOU A COUPLE HUNDRED....MAYBE A LITTLE MORE OR A LITTLE LESS...DEPENDS ON WHO DOES IT FOR YOU....MY BAD IF THIS DON'T HELP YOU NONE HOMEBOY...

Cool homie, thanks for the help. Its a schwinn sting ray. I just wanted it to look cool for my nephew. I'll probably take it to some shop over here. it won't have any bondo but it is pretty rusted up and I dont want to fuck it up. I personaly want it to be painted. Thanks for the help homie. By the way have you ever fixed a bike up Oso. I mean I am 24 and I thought that it wouldnt be fun but damn I got hella in to it. I have a beach cruiser that I want to fix up, I got it from a old lady and I think the frame is better than the one I have right now so I will probably get all into making another. Well thanks for the help.

powder coating is baked on (they spray a powder, of whatever color you want, then they bake it in a huge oven) so it's a pretty strong bond... it's not supposed to chip and scratch like paint does, my brother got a bike frame coated years ago and I thought it was pretty nice lookin' I didn't think it was duller then paint. I have no idea about the cost, I'd just call up some folks in the area that do it, I'm not sure about the rust factor though if it's just surface rust and it can be sanded off then I'm thinking it wont hurt in the coating process but if it's bad rust it might not be wise to try to coat it... if he's going to ride it and such it might be best to coat it, if he's going to keep it up and take care of the bike painting would be fine. I personally would go with powder coating they can do a lot of colors and such. Hope that helped some....

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am mostly into beach cruisers, I usually strip the paint spray some new one and sell it.
