Best program for sharing large amounts of files between computers online?

And im not talking rapidshare for you computer illiterate ass porn watchers. I'm talkin about some shit, preferably with a free download, that I can install on two computers and transfer several (and several large) files.

I have the two computers right next to me but I'm really not in the mood to go to the store and get some crossover cable.

if you know anything about ftp setups you could check out bulletproof ftp. then you can have your homies log onto your computer with set names and passwords and set restrictions and whatnot. they can just dl whatever from there.
