What's the best program to Buy/Download for someone wanting to start producing? I see a lot of people talking about Fruity Loops but are there any other programs that are better. I want something that's easy to learn but has a ton of capabilities. What should I get?

i'd go with fruity loops,....the sequencer is easy to use and you can add sounds to it if you dont like the "fruity" sounds that it comes with.....along with fruity loops, you wanna get some sort of multitracking program like(cool edit pro or acid).

I must've taken some good drugs the day I responded, cause if I had paid attention to the first post, I would've realized you weren't him.

I'd recommend Reason, if you're starting out. I have accumulated quite a bit of equipment, and I still fuck with Reason here and there.

Reason is another good choice for a beatmaking software.....but i didnt really like it. im the type of cat who wants a program where i can start on a beat and then later when i run into a problem, i can read the manual. Reason is the other way around. you cant just jump into that program and crank out the tunes. you gotta read the manual just to make a simple drum pattern. its a good program if you have prior experience with other beat making software, however i wouldnt recommend it to rookies. but once you do get the hang of reason....you can get a lot done with that program.

when i comes to MIDI you dont really have to worry about breaking the bank....i copped a cheap one at radio shack for like 50 bills....but i use it with hardware so all i needed was MIDI out....
