All Tournament Fighters Make Weight for Bellator Season 4 Debut

All eight welterweight tournament competitors successfully hit the scales Friday night ahead of Saturday’s Bellator Fighting Championships 35, which will set off both the promotion’s fourth season and third 170-pound tourney.

A quartet of welterweight quarterfinals comprises the MTV2-televised main card of the show, which emanates from the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif. In the headliner, former champion Lyman Good (170.8 pounds) begins his quest for a second tournament title against unbeaten upstart Chris Lozano (170.6).

“I’m trying to go back in there with a clean mind, trying to rid myself of the fact that I even competed in the first tournament,” Good said after stepping off the scale. “I’m coming in and I’m trying to work my way through three people right now to try and get my shot back at that belt.”

In other tournament action, high-profile offseason acquisition Jay Hieron (170.8) makes his Bellator debut against submission specialist Anthony Lapsley (170.8), a late replacement for the injured Steve Carl. Judo practitioners Rick Hawn (170.6) and Jim Wallhead (170) will square off in another quarterfinal, while second-season finalist Dan Hornbuckle (170) takes on the streaking Brent Weedman (169.4) in a rematch of a 2006 bout which Hornbuckle won via submission.

Women’s 115-pound champion Zoila Frausto (125.6) tops the non-televised “local” portion of the bill. The “Warrior Princess” takes on Karina Hallinan (124) in a 125-pound non-title affair, Frausto’s first appearance since controversially besting Megumi Fujii after five rounds last October. Frausto and Hallinan previously met in February 2009, with Frausto taking a split decision in what was both women’s professional debut.

Also in action on the undercard is Strikeforce veteran Waachiim Spiritwolf (173.4), who meets fellow local fan favorite Jaime Jara (174.4) at a catchweight of 176 pounds.

Bellator Fighting Championships 35 Weigh-in Results:

Lyman Good (170.8) vs. Chris Lozano (170.6)
Jay Hieron (170.8) vs. Anthony Lapsley (170.8)
Rick Hawn (170.6) vs. Jim Wallhead (170)
Dan Hornbuckle (170) vs. Brent Weedman (169.4)

Hornbuckle looked like shit, was pretty disappointing. All the fights were pretty weak actually, hopefully it was just jitters. Semi-finals is going to be Hawn-Good and Weedman-Hieron

Bellator 38 ratings dip again, event averages 150,000 MTV2 viewers

Bellator ratings dipped for a second week, and this past weekend's Bellator 38 event drew a season-low 150,000 viewers on MTV2.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the ratings information with an event source.

The March 26 event, which took place at Harrah's Tunica Hotel and Casino in Tunica Resorts, Miss., aired at a special start time of 7 p.m. ET/PT to avoid overlapping with Spike TV's broadcast of UFC Fight Night 24.

The event, though, featured little in the way of starpower. Despite a competitive field, the opening round of the organization's light-heavyweight tournament was light on household names. Ultimately, though, Tim Carpenter, D.J. Linderman, Richard Hale and Christian M'Pumbu picked up tourney victories during the broadcast.

Hale's victory, in fact, is building some interest on YouTube. The veteran fighter pulled off a rare submission victory when he stopped Nik Fekete with an inverted-triangle choke, a move Toby Imada used in a season-one tourney to win the 2009 World MMA Award "Submission of the Year" trophy.

However, Bellator ratings have steadily fallen since a season-best 230,000 viewers tuned in for Bellator 36 two weeks ago. A week later, Bellator 37 drew just 173,000 viewers. MTV2, which is airing its first 12-week season of Bellator, caters mostly to a young-male demographic.

A replay of Bellator 38 that aired at midnight ET/PT drew 97,000 viewers.

same guy that gave Warren the 30-27 card

that may have been the worst decision I've ever seen. Warren is hands down the luckiest fighter on the planet. And I still think he's awesome

Bellator 41 ratings: Event draws season-low 132,000 viewers on MTV2

This past weekend's Bellator 41 event drew a season-low 132,000 viewers on MTV2, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with an event source.

That marks a 39 percent ratings drop from Bellator 40. It's also 18,000 fewer viewers than Bellator 37, which previously held the season low with an audience of 150,000.

The April 16 event took place at Cocopah Resort and Casino in Yuma, Ariz.

The ratings actually coincided with one the organization's better cards. In addition to two non-title fights with Bellator champs Joe Warren and Zach Makovsky, Bellator 41 featured the semifinal round of the organization's competitive featherweight tournament. The event also faced no competition from other major MMA organizations.

While the live broadcast of Bellator 41 scored just 132,000 initial viewers, MTV2's immediate replay of the event scored 107,000 viewers.

The first-run season-four ratings include:
Bellator 35 ratings: 200,000 viewers
Bellator 36 ratings: 230,000
Bellator 37 ratings: 173,000
Bellator 38 ratings: 150,000
Bellator 39 ratings: 174,000
Bellator 40 ratings: 218,000
Bellator 41 ratings: 132,000
Bellator returns this week with Bellator 42, which takes place Saturday at Lucky Star Casino in Concho, Okla. The event features the semifinal round of Bellator's light-heavyweight tournament.

The fight card for the loaded Bellator 44 event is now complete with the addition of five preliminary-card bouts.

And the untelevised action features some notable fighters with big-stage experience.
