You just want to get the BPM's to match as closely as possible. If you're using turntables, you can use the pitch control. Doing this on a computer, you'ld want to use something called time-stretching.

I didn't know if he meant making a beat that changes to a different beat for the hook (or bridge) or turntables/dj techniques. I have technics here at the lab but I don't touch them. To be honest I don't like dealing with records and turntables. BTM or DJ JETSKI will scratch for me when I need it. I can't deal with records or turntables. I feel like I'm going to scratch them or break the needle everytime I get close to them. Time stretching and pitch I know about. DJ equipment? I can tell you how to hook it up.....nothing more.

listen to the original song of the accapella you plan to use...listen to the way he/she flows over the beat....most rappers will place their rhyme word on top(or near) of the last snare in the bar....but there are some rappers who like to rhyme ahead or behind the beat....

I was just fuckin' wit you. That's how I got started in this music shit.....2 turntables and a microphone back in 1989. Damn I'm old. My 1200's are just big paper weights now.....although Skunt has been tryin' to talk me into scratchin' on some new songs. Scratchin' just seems so "old school" to me though.

^^^ Seriously man me getting near turntables and actually placing the needle on the record is a BIG no no. Thats like me holding a newborn and thats not happening.I'm not trying to drop or break anything. When you listen to commercial songs on the radio a lot of them have scratches. They have scratches right in the middle of a rap verse (for a break down) or right towards the end of the verse and start of a hook. The scratches aren't from dj's but keyboards and modules. Too be honest I've heard the same scratch patch (a roland one) in over 50 songs. Shit man if he is telling you to lace the tracks with some scratching you should do it. You can ALWAYS take it out if it doesnt fit the song. How do you feel about those cd turntables? Mark 7 treated himself to one recently. You ever play with those?

Nope.....I haven't had the pleasure. I hear they're pretty dope though. I'm just curious as to if and how they actually work like a real turntable.

I'm so rusty when it comes to the whole turntable thing it's rediculous. They actually just sat in the boxes for years......when I built my new studio I finally had enough room to set them up and have my few thousand records stored there too. Before that.....my records sat in the closet and barely ever seen the light of day. But I started diggin' in the crates lately and have been whippin' up some incredible beats and song concepts......you'll be hearing some of them real soon when our new albums drop in April-May.
