The Chicago Bears lost two defensive starters for the season during Sunday's 14-3 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

Safety Mike Brown suffered a season-ending knee injury, while defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

Brown suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Chicago's season-opening 14-3 loss in San Diego.

Brown has only played 21 regular season games since 2004. He missed 14 games in 2004 (Achilles), four games in 2005 (calf – missed last four games of regular season and returned for playoffs) and 10 games in 2006 (foot).

Dvoracek was starting in the place vacated by former Bears DT Tank Johnson, who was released during the off-season after a series of off-the-field problems derailed his pro football career.

Damn. Tough blow. I feel bad for Brown, he is truly the heart of that defense. Three years in a row too. Fuck.

I hope that Lorenzo Neal faggot on SD breaks both his legs. That was a cheap shot that injured brown. Should be at least fined.

^^I wish death on george w bush too, so what?

it was illegal horse collar/closeline wwf move. Grabbed him and pulled him backwards. Happened exactly one play before the LT rushing TD - brown shot like a bullet into the backfield and Neal closelined him/horsecollard him to the ground. Very blatant holding/tackle/wwf move penalty. Should have been called but whatever.

It was, but the refs totally over looked it. Can't see everything from on the field though. Didn't look like it was going to cause that much damage though I'm shocked he got injured from it.

He's obviously injury prone - probably cuz some commie football lover put a voo doo hex on his ass.

thats why they made the horse collar illegal cause your body goes down so awkward.

When it happened I immediately said there was holding on the play, but I do understand refs cant see all, so they get a pass.

I didn't think his injury was going to be that bad but shit, sometimes it doesn't always look that fierce just like that guy that may be paralyzed on buffalo.

How does the NFL define a horse collar? I thought that was a take down from behind by grabbing the neckline. They consider that the same as a clothes line? When did the clothes line become an illegal move?

From the limited view I saw of it. It looked more like a righteous hit & probably a hold, but I didn’t think it was illegal(I didn't know the clothesline was an illegal move).

Plus that was more of a straight arm to the sholder/collar bone area - not neck which is what i think would be illegal about the clothes line. When I heard he was injured I expected it to be collar bone/neck injury.

it wasn't a righteous hit - brown blitzed and was in the backfield. Neal realized he was going to get to the ball, turned, grabbed browns neck/collar and pulled him backwards. He didn't hit him at all, it was a take down from the back.

If the NFL doesn't have a horse collar rule for Defense (which I don't see why not) then at the very least it should have been holding. But again, not blaming the refs here.

i just found something about it on the chargers board, and youre right refs do miss things like the tommie harris offsides call, i still wanna see the play though cause they were saying it was a horse collar. too bad i didnt dvr it.

Wasn't Neal's right arm extended across Brown's sholder from left to right?

Just seemed more like he nocked his ass down more than a pulling/tckel kinda move.

I'm not trying to argue the point, I just saw it once briefly so I'm interested.

Even the announcers pointed it out. When Brown got into the backfield Neal clotheslined him and then pulled him down from behind by his head.

I was waiting for Brown to get hurt, but didn't think it'd be the first game. And Dvoracek kills right now, he could have had a great year. Good thing we got Walker.
And Tommy looked pretty fucking good, if he's not at 100% he really is the best DT in football.

That's exactly how I saw it and I remember the announcers saying it was a clear penalty.

I'll try to find the replay...

@ESCOBAR
I don't really care about the no call from the refs cause shit like that will happen in every game, I just thought it was a blatant penalty. Honestly I don't think Neal was trying to injure Brown, but he knew what he was doing - he kinda looked around after the play looking for a flag too cause he knew he fucked up and my wishing harm on Neal was more of a knee jerk reaction to losing Brown.

i gotcha man, obviously im a die hard charger, but im a realist too. being at the game and partying i always miss shit, thats why i wanna see it. the way you describe it with neal looking around after the play sounds like him too, but yeah still need to see it. and dont worry about the harm, i have those thoughts about the raiders and their fans at least twice a day

I'm sure SD fans would want a penalty for Tommy jumping the snap too, but that was just fucking insane haha.

It seemed like everyone was pretty fired up, which might had been the reason for all the injuries. Neal wasn't trying to hurt Brown, but it was a cheap move. And Sproles damn near got killed on that opening kickoff from Ayanbadejo.

So i guess now Danieal Manning will take Brown's spot and McGowan will back up both him and Archuletta.
