I don't know if that Mac Dre figure is right, but if you can take your music and sell an album that you didn't have to pay production costs for (get the beats via networking) and recorded on your own Pro-Tools Studio and get cashed out upfront in the Music Industry today then by all means do it. And IT DOESN'T MEAN IT IS A CRAP ALBUM JUST BECAUSE AN ARTIST SOLD IT OUTRIGHT! People have to pay bills and this is their job. Just as someone in the Antique business goes to Auctions and sells their Valuable Antiques to the Highest Bidder now so are BAY AREA rap artists. You have to make a living in this industry and you have to change with the times and find a new way to make money. The BAY AREA rap artists are always pioneers in this business when it comes to new ways to get paid.
Showtime at Frisco Street Show is the one that took this to a whole other level. And I was glad to see him at the forefront of it. Its like this. BAY AREA rap artists don't really see publishing in a large scale, they don't get broke off big chips for shows, and they don't get WORLDWIDE requests for features. They have to make their money upfront somehow and this is an excellent way. It is just that the "BUYER" has to make sure to use quality control and make sure that they are getting a well put together album.
Trust me I am now feeling first hand how the effects of the Independent Music Game is changing in the BAY AREA and how it can effect a person that makes their music "SOLEY" from this business. If I didn't breed American Pit Bull Terriers on the side and wasn't doing Promotions for other artists across the Nation then I would of fell hard. I can't lie I did fall hard but am pushing back up the latter and have a lot of Cd's scheduled from the label and am going to be working the Digital Downloads real heavy for 2009.
