My g5 crashed over the weekend... the hard drive is failing and not responding.. I lost over a year and a half worth of music... Im completely fucked, my only chance to get my stuff back is taking my drive to a repair specialist.. on the phone they said it will cost me between $500-2500 dollars... anybody know of anywhere cheaper? cuz thats rediculous... Im gonna see what I do have backed up before I spend that kinda loot... I got verses from Keak da Sneak, (3) Ya Boy, San Quinn, Turf Talk, Reek Daddy, Mistah FAB on there that if i dont got backed up im shit outta luck...

so BACK UP YOUR FILES!!!!!!!!!! Trust me it can happen to you.. I barely used the internet on this computer too, awwwwwwww this is horible...

D@mn, bro I feel for you. That happened to me about a year ago. Good thing is my HD didn't completely die out right away, it was making crazy noises, but it still worked ok some how, so I had an opportunity to jump on a external HD and back everything up quick. I basically lucked out, I would have lost out on a lot of $hit. I only have 1 backup HD, but I'm thinking about probably buying another. I think it's best to have atleast 2 backup HD's to be safe. I can't imagine losing all my beats I have worked on, that's memories right there. Beat making is only a hobby to me so it doesn't have any significant value interms of making money or with being in any agreements with artists/labels, but it's still something very special to me as well, just as artwork can be to a painter. Doesn't mean your making money off of it, but it can still be special to you, that's the way I see producing. I would probably shed a tear if that happened to me, no joke.

Good luck man! I wish I could help you, but I really don't know about any repair specialists.

Yeah that sucks when something u spend time on gets lost. But year and a half is a long time to not have backed anything up man. Im so paranoid, lets say im workin on a beat, Ill make multiple copies of the progression of the beat. Kinda ridiculous but whatever.

You still may be able to grab your files off the HD. You can download a live Linux disk. Have your pc boot from the cd rom and the OS will run off of the disk. This will give you access to your files on the hd, so that you can transfer them to a USB drive. This is what most recovery places will do first. You can go here: Remote Exploit
http://www.remote-exploit.org/index.php/Main_Page

Or if you know of another version ...that will work the same.

and go to the download page. download the ISO of Back|Track and burn it to CD. I have recovered "lost" data this way for a couple of people.

This is non destructive it won't change anything on your hard drive...unless you purposely delete something. I highly suggest trying this before breaking off that much loot.

Same thing happened to us, we lost 4 albums, good thing i pressed before, but now it's all gone no remixes. Place i took it(computerguys:antioch, ca) said they would send it off to a specialist for 1,700. if they can't recover it there then the hd is screwed and ill get 1000 back.

Havent took it, but im wonder if anyone has had success w/ these type of companys and what they charge??????

Bottom line make a bunch of back ups. just in case your backup goes bad. I now use 2 100 gig externals HD's and put all files i make on 1 and all apps on the other and only the main hd has OS.
