looks like another cough-syrup related death in rap.

i think if it wasnt for me knowing how to regulate my breathing and knowing not to ever fall asleep when leaning too hard, i woulda been dead looong time ago. got on my knees to pray to see the morning quite a few times, wrote my own will before i went to sleep...

so to all yall who think sipping syrup is real cool and you wanna try, just remember to keep it at responsible dosages...or you might not see tomorrow.

The 33-year old Pimp C, whose real name was Chad Butler, was found lying on his bed at the Mondrian Hotel on Dec. 4.

The hip-hop performer, a member of the group UGK, was found in a West Hollywood hotel in December.

Rapper Pimp C, an influential hip-hop figure who once sang an ode to getting high from drinking cough medicine, died accidentally at an upscale Sunset Strip hotel because of a combination of cough syrup and other factors, the Los Angeles County coroner said today.

The 33-year old Pimp C, whose real name was Chad Butler, was found lying on his bed at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood on Dec. 4. He had checked into the hotel on Nov. 28, according to hotel staffers, and was discovered dead after he failed to check out as expected.

FOR THE RECORD:
An earlier version of this article incorrectly described the amount of cough syrup in Chad Butler's system as an overdose. Coroner's officials said the cough syrup was not found in levels that were considered excessive, but that in connection with his sleep apnea, the medication stopped his breathing.
The coroner's report listed the condition of his body as "decomposed" and also noted the Port Arthur, Texas, native had a history of sleep apnea.

Initially, coroners' officials said it appeared Butler had died naturally, noting there was no indication of trauma or drug paraphernalia. But an investigation determined the death to be "due to promethazine/codeine effects and other unestablished factors," said Ed Winter, assistant chief of the coroner's office.

"We found a large amount of prescription cough medicine in the bedroom," Winter said.

Butler was a member of the Texas hip-hop duo UGK, which scored a No. 1 album last year with its seventh release, "Underground Kingz."

Mainstream stardom, however, eluded Butler and his partner, Bun B, for most of the group's 15-year career.

In the early 1990s, the two became known for their sharp, original rap style, ribald chronicles of "gangsta life" and stripped-down beats.

Although their collaborations with higher-profile artists, including Jay-Z (on the hit "Big Pimpin' ") and the Oscar-winning rap group Three 6 Mafia (with which UGK recorded "Sippin on Sizzurp," an ode to getting high from drinking cough medicine), are considered hip-hop classics, UGK's more enduring claim to fame may be helping to establish Southern rap.

In 2002, Butler was sentenced to eight years in prison after falling behind on court-ordered community service.

That sentence had been imposed after the rapper-producer pleaded no contest to aggravated assault charges; he had brandished a gun during an argument with a woman at a shopping mall.

He served about half his sentence at Terrell Prison in Livingston, Texas, before being paroled in 2005.

Rap fans had made a cause celebre of Butler's incarceration. "Free Pimp C" T-shirts and baseball caps became popular with UGK fans across the country, and a host of rap stars appeared in music videos and at concerts calling for his release.

At the time of his death, Butler's manager, Rick Martin, released a statement extending condolences to Butler's wife and children.

"Chad was finally seeing the results of the years of love and labor that he and Bun B have put in over the years, culminating in the tremendous success of their album, 'Underground Kingz,' " Martin said.

"Chad was set to soar with not only a new solo deal on Jive Records, but a lucrative publishing deal, a new satellite radio show, several group projects and a national cologne endorsement.

"Chad had everything to live for," Martin said.

you mean bun b? how is that even possible when pimp c made the beats..

and to anyone reading that sleep apnea was a cause of his death just keep in mind hes always had sleep apnea and always sipped lean...

respiratory depression was more than likely the cause of his demise...which is a side effect of overusing syrup (as said on the medical sheet)

wack...i hate to hear that...i initially thought he od'ed on coke personally

oh, no doubt. it seems like alot of rappers are just checking out too early. especially when they had their careers ahead of them just kinda on the verge of blowing up
yeah...like denis leary has said, its always your favorite artists/people who go early, not people you wouldnt mind kicking the bucket.

eh....

i mean the thing people dont realize is its not the codeine thats the problem its the promethazine

secondly its the combination of the two

for me to give a recomended dosage would just be fucked up and irresponsible. i would say to ALWAYS start really low, and work your way up slowly.

the thing about opiates (and this is to anyone who fucks with them, remember this)

you can start low and work your way up to a desired dose

but if you start too high...you cant take that back...

and many a person has died that way..intelligent people...

and i am not personally downing lean, i think its one of the best recreational drugs there is, but i think people listening to rap songs on how to sip lean are going to kill themselves

oh and another thing i want to mention is everyone who has died from lean, yknow..the rappers... has a conflicting problem with the drug....like if you read the medical sheet you wouldnt take that shit if you had sleep apnea, asthma, or any breathing/respiratory issues..if youre overweight...you shouldnt even smoke weed on lean because it increases your heartrate and potentiates the opiates and the preomthazine so you end up really stuck...people think thats fun but it can easily push you over the limit between sleeping and dying...so this is a sad case of people either not knowing about what theyre ingesting, or not giving a fuck.

always start low. always. no need to get greedy.
cant gulp down the cup you gotta sip it..thats why the shit used to be in baby bottles....cuz niggas was too dumb to sip from a cup without blacking out and waking pu the next day
