SAN LEANDRO (KRON)--Authorities say an intruder who claimed to be a police officer after making his way inside a San Leandro church on New Year's Day remains on the loose.
Police say at about 5:05 a.m., someone heard noises coming from the living quarters of the St. Leander Catholic Church at 550 W. Estudillo Avenue. According to police, the person encounted the suspect, who claimed to be a police officer looking for a friend. The suspect then fled out the front door of the church.
According to police, there was no signs of forced entry and investigators determined that nothing was missing from the church. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 300 pounds. He was seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark shorts.
Police believe the suspect was startled when confronted by the person in the church. Anyone with information about this incident should contact San Leandro police.
