Bumpus makes beats on the computer and he makes SLAPS.
If someone can make a beat on a computer don't knock em. If someone can make a beat on an mpc don't knock em. As long as the music slaps, people enjoy it and you put 100% in you shouldn't knock it. I don't sequence on an mpc, but you don't see me knocking people who do.

As far as what you are looking for you can cop a used ASR-10, a used mpc 1000 (or even a 2000) an emu MP-7 or Mo-Phatt Keys, an Alesis QS.1, a used roland fantom (not the fantom x or s) or a used xp-60.

I personally believe and MPC is a tool to get after you have been learning for awhile and got a start up rig already down pact and going strong. You need more than just an MPC you know. You need lots of drum kits, vinyl cds or keyboards and modules etc for one of those to be useful to you right from the start. I personally recomend Reason 3.0 a midi keyboard (those Axiums by M-Audio are pretty clean, Korg Kontrol 49, CME 49 key is one I have my eye on. and a decent computer from this decade and you are pretty much set. If you like sampling you can either get any major sequencer/ recording software or get propellarheads recycle and you can import cds, MP3s, raw audio into it and run it into reasons samplers in itself or slave reason through the software and thats all you need. It all depends on how you like to work and your workflow not the gear you have. There are people with the rich daddy to buy them a 4000 a protools HD system with racks and racks of sound mods and class A preamps and they still suck. Its all about your vision and your ability to put it in some sort of tangible form.

Your questions have been asked a million times and answered a million times so next time use the forum's search feature before-hand. Also, this is the age of the computer homeboy. Several top-shelf big name producers use computer-based setups so if it's good enough for them it should certainly be good enough for you. You shouldn't ask people for help, then turn around and insult the ones who use certain types of equipment. Makes you look like a real dumbass.

The best advice someone can give you probably is to use software, especially since you don't have money. Sure you can spend a couple hundred dollars on a used ASR10 or something like that but that's just a sampler with a keyboard attached to it. You still need to load sounds into it every time you turn it on. If you want "good" sounds, you need access to "good" sounds which isn't the typical garbage you find on the net for free.

Also, understand that hardware isn't going to make your beats turn out any better. If you don't have the talent in you, you're going to be wack regardless of what you use.

yer sayin if someone uses VSTs and other computer programs they aren't a producer....Yet YOU haven't even started yet? Come the fuck on man...

I ditched 99% of my hardware and now use mostly VSTs and my ASR-10 as the controller...I'm not talkin Fruity Loops...But get yer facts straight about what EXACTLY yer tryin to talk about...Maaaaaaaany producers use virtual synths. It ain't like it makes the beat for u. What exactly do you think is inside of hardware keyboards? That's right, SOFTWARE lol

You can check for those items on ebay or craigslist. If I were in your shoes I would go the software route. I would use sample tank, reason and a gang of vsts and I would use Cubase or PT to arrange/sequence the parts, and at some point, even if you use hardware you are going to have to dump the tracks to a computer anyway 9unless you record to some other type of daw or tape.)

do a google or ebay search for the items I listed and check http://www.prepal.com/manufacturers.htm for what the pieces should go for in the used market.

I do kinda understand where dude is coming from though, it is fun to have a little eye candy in your rig but it doesn't mean it will make you better. its all about knowing the gear you do have

yeah especially hardware is getting more and more pricey. I just think its fun to turn a knob every once in awhile but with a higher end midi keyboard thats not a problem. routing can be a pain in the ass though so I'm usually fuck it and just use the mouse to turn those virtual knobs around in my software.

Shit here are bad ass hardware/software combo systems out there like one of the viruses, anyone saw one of those? they look fuckin sick, way too expensive though for pretty much a VST and an exteremly expensive controller i'm sure you get more than that but yeah.

I'm definately hands-on but the benefits of using software over hardware are undeniable. I still use a mixture of both but only because old habits die hard. In truth, a good controller and my sound library is all I need. I could sell all my gear today and not miss a beat.

There are still sweet pieces of hardware out there, they are still gonna make that stuff and it will always be useful. I think in the future you'll see alot more integration between hardware and software. They come out with new gadgets all the time that are hella cool.

There one gizmo forgot who makes it where it stores all your VST and hardware soundbanks all in one box and you can run em simultainiosly through all kinds of synth engines and sound modification software to really come with some out of this world shit. looked pretty cool on paper
