i been here for awhile and seen a lot of rappers come and go. i wanted to offer a few free pieces of advice. some of you may take it in stride, some of you may feel any number of ways about it.
THE SICCNESS IS A PUBLIC, FREE FORUM. OPINIONS ON THIS SITE ARE GIVEN BY THE PEOPLE WHO WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOU.
when you post up your music and your videos people will share their opinions. you are not special. you get no "pass" because you are the artist which the material belongs to. very rare does a thread get made and it goes without a negative feed back. its par for the course. people who dont know you will have just been subjected to your "new" material.
you as the artist just stepped into the matrix. a free for all to critique, criticize, and destroy your hard work. they will also in some cases give props, become fans, and spread the word of your hard work and craft.
but 1 or the other will happen. how you present yourself on this site and others like it, will determine how you are perceived. you are posting on the same site they are. you are now equals. when you try to bully the internet, it wont work. because 95% of the time, you will never really know the person on the other end of the keyboard. and on the internet, 95% of the people on here aint from a "hood" or a "turf" but they love their hip hop. so when you pop shots at the "fans" you are facing off with an i.p. address full of shit talk which they learned from... yep you guessed it.... hip hop records.
my last point i would like to bring up before i go would be this...... when was the last time you seen e 40 or too short, or keak or quinn post on the siccness? not saying they dont read it, but they never post. im gonna throw this word out to you and some may say im wrong but the word is "EQUALITY". when you come to the public place and make statements you are now allowing people who should be fans, and supporters now have an opinion and a direct contact to you. in some cases like big rich, and balance it helps. they are building. they are on the 2nd level of bay area hip hop. they still are accessible.
build yourself a team of competent people. a staff with common goals. utilize the avenues given to you around here. ADVERTISE ON THE SICCNESS. become a part of the community. people on here can tell if you are only here to pimp your music. and if they see you have 25 posts and all of them are pimping your new song, they are probably gonna shit on you based on that alone weather you are dope or not.
i know this ran long. some on you will agree, some may disagree. but i felt like typing and dropping a little game on yall.
best of luck to everyone. just dont set yourself up for failure. remember you can run down the hill and fuck 1 chick, but if you walk down the hill you can fuck em all!!!!! hahahahahahahaha
be easy.
