ok, i have heard about the asr's and i know there are several different versions. i noticed the x's are a lot cheaper than the 10's, whats the deal behind these? i need people with experience on these machines to give some input.
The 10s aren't made any longer and the sequencer on it is tight. The X I have never used, but from what I understand it has some pretty sick shit you can do on it, the only thing is that the sequencer supposedly sucks on it, and I guess it has somewhat of a steep learning curve.
Sick Wid It - I've never used the X but what makes you say it sucks?
1) 10 is a keyboard, x is a drum machine
2) 10 has no sounds, x has lots of shitty sounds
3) 10 has a unique quantizer - makes your beats with that east coast rza/wu tang feel to them. ice t's 7 deadly sins album was made with an asr 10 i can almost be sure of it.
4) 10 has 8 track sequencing which is ok, x has like 16 track sequencing i think which has a notoriously shitty sequencer which loses data and corrupts your files on the reg.
5) asr 10's sampler has a filter which is vintage and not used in the asr x - i can't tell the difference but east coast producers over here can tell and prefer the asr 10's sequencer
6) unless you really want to make east coast sounding beats, stop being cheap and buy an MPC
2) second, i dont need a keyboard or midi controller, (the pads on the mpc would be nice though)
i heard that it has a built in synth/sampler/effects engine that is pretty nice. i also realize that there is about a 400 to 500 dollar price gap between the machines. the mpc is way out of my price range (why get a base model when i can get a triton rack for the same price?)
i probably wouldnt get the 10 because of money issues, but if the x is worth 3 to 400 i want to add something to my arsenal. im solely interested in the effects/sampling/ and synth characteristics. maybe these details can get me a more specific answer. thanks all for the replies.
I wouldn't get a triton because it's sequencer is a piece of dogshit.
and i haven't sat down for months at a time and studied the asr-x and how to get the most out of it...but in the times i've used it - it sounds like a piece of shit arcade game, and the synth engine you use to create your own sounds is similar to a game because - as I recall, you don't hear your results until you are done creating the sound.
thanks jr, im not worried about hard, i just want to see whats so bad about the x that its only goin for 3 to 500 bucks. so is there a bonafide synth in it or what? im not talking about that stomper program either. i used the computer version and wasnt impressed in the least. but if it has a synth of some sort and the effects are as good as ive heard then im going to swoop one. thanks
look dickhead the point of the studio folder is we're all trying to work towards tight music together - I offered what I knew from PRACTICAL HANDS ON EXPERIENCE of the Asr-X and now you want to TALK BIG SHIT??
well your poor, broke faggot ass must have been born out of your stanky mother's cock with NO EYEBALLS or EARS, because anyone who reads reputable synth reviews knows that if you REALLY want a powerful synth engine, get a Kurzweil, or the MOSS engine for a triton or a bunch of OTHERS (my boy finds PC programs to be the best for him)
you are so broke (probably from spending all your scratch you make from mcdonalds on CHILD PORN) you are trying to cut corners by purchasing an asr-x - NOTORIOUS FOR IT'S HORRIBLE SOUNDS and NONSENSICAL SYNTH ENGINE (where sound creation is similar to a crapshoot)
well cool - don't take my "opinion" even though I've been working on and off with an ASR-X for a year and half -
BUY IT, I hope somebody does you binladin style and hides some plastique up in that little gay box and blows you and your piece of SHIT family and any worthless seeds you may have CLEAN THE FUCK UP
woah shit, that was uncalled for. Have you 2 had prior beef?
Phil - are you looking to get the ASR-X just because of the sampler? If I were you, I wouldn't get either, keep using what you're using. Aren't you sequencing in Cubase? Use a VST sampler, or get ahold of Gigasampler, that shit is off the hook.
but anyways, i was interested in picking up a good deal if this was one, im still waiting to get a few "hands on" users of both pieces to give some input. im not as interested in the sampler as i am the synth and effects COMBINED with a fairly usable sampler. the sound quality cant be all that bad for as popular a piece it is. especially for as cheap as they are. thanks again.
booger king at it again, yappin his big immature mouth, why do they let lil boyz up in here anywayz, is it nostril or can i call you booger, either way your blow hole needz to bounce......
a little side note, i searched the web and heard nothing but PRAISE for the sound quality, NOT ONE NEGATIVE COMMENT, only gripes i found were with the sequencer and other unrelated quirks. can dj mark 7 give a response? i noticed in another thread he has used it for 6 years. dj mark??
a dope producer in san diego, cali, uses the asr 10, he's a down azz prodcuer, prodices for alot of artists in dat area, and some in l.a., vmf is his name....some wicked shit fo' dat azz!!! just thought i mention that......latezz
