Artest Rumors Make Their Way To Golden State
14th December, 2005 - 12:21 pm
Mercury News - Make no mistake about it. To a man, there are a few Warriors who will tell you in a heartbeat they'd love to have Indiana Pacers small forward Ron Artest as a teammate.

"(Expletive) yeah," Warriors guard Jason Richardson said. "He's one of the top players in this league. To get a guy like that ..."

Artest has been a hot topic around the league since the Pacers revealed Monday they are looking to deal the embattled All-Star after his public trade request. Warriors executive vice president Chris Mullin has a good relationship with Indiana's CEO and president Donnie Walsh, who traded for Mullin near the end of his playing career and groomed Mullin for a move to the front office.

Rumors and speculation had made its way to the Warriors locker room prior to Tuesday's game. One player said he was told of a scenario of the Warriors sending small forward Mike Dunleavy and center Adonal Foyle to the Pacers for Artest and center Jeff Foster, whom the Warriors drafted in the first round (No. 21) of the 1999 draft and immediately traded his rights to Indiana for the rights to guard Vonteego Cummings and a future pick.

The numbers match, as the Pacers' pair will earn $11.8 million this season and the Warriors' pair will make $11.9 million. Because both teams are over the salary cap, the contracts only have to come to within 25 percent of each other instead of the usual 15 percent. Also, Dunleavy and whichever one of the Warriors' younger talents -- i.e., forward/center Andris Biedrins, forward Zarko Cabarkapa, swingman Mickael Pietrus -- Indiana wants would fit. Guard Derek Fisher could be traded straight up for Artest, although it would certainly take a draft pick or a young talent to make it worth the Pacers' while.

If the Warriors were to acquire Artest, that would give them a starting perimeter of Artest, Richardson and Baron Davis. It would also significantly improve their ability to defend the perimeter.

"He plays so hard all the time," Foyle said. "We could use that. I admire anyone who plays like that."

cause they're in a position where they want to trade him cause he doesn't want to play there anymore

a bunch of people are gonna try to get them for lame ass offers, they might have to settle on a trade cause it definitely seems like he won't play in a pacers jersey again.

TO is a great player(a moron as a person though) and he was picked up pretty cheaply

Its logical. No one wants someone on their team who doesnt want to be there. And because they wanna get rid of him asap, they'll probably let him go for not too much. Plus, you know how those trades with marquee names usually go...more often than not, they get dealt to the opposite conference.

Warriors got a good chance to land him. They have players to expend. Why else would Minnesota be interested in us?

I predict he'll be gone by xmas, maybe sooner.

pacers won't get equal value when trading artest. like ac transit already said that he is only making 6.5 million and how many other 6.5 million ball players are in artest's status? Pacers are in no position to be demanding and im sure they know that. i think warriors should not make the trade because of team chemistry.

AFTER TONIGHT THEY DEFINITELY NEED HIM, I WENT TO THE FUCKEN GAME, 1ST GAME I WENT TO THIS YEAR AND THEY BLOW IT TO THE FULLEST AND TOPPING IT OFF WAS THAT THEY GAVE UP A 3 WITH 2 SECONDS LEFT TO TIE THE GAME TO SEND IT INTO OT. THE FANS WERE GOING CRAZY UNTIL THEN, IT WAS DEFINITELY GOOD TO SEE THE GREAT FAN SUPPORT.

I think Artest could have helped also. Foyle is garbage, didn't score shit.

I would love to see Artest go to Dallas that would give the Mavs the defensive player they need. That would help them out for this season and in the playoffs just maybe go somewhere this year.

i hear Artest said if he signs with a West Coast team he's gonna re-sign with a East Coast team when his contracts up. so if we give up Dun and Foyle, and get Artest and Foster, then Artest leaves, we traded 2 startes for Jeff Foster. doesen't really make sense, but who know, Mully is a St. John's guy as well.........never know........

everyone bashes Foyle, BUT go out and find me a center that the Warriors can sign ???? i really like Jeff Foster, he's just like a Folye, he grabs crazy rebounds........we'll see what happens.......if anyone, i'd like to get rid of Zarko for a draft pick or something, that guy is softer than i don't know what !!!!
