Sen Lindsey Graham approved ammendment: won 53-43
Currently approximately 200 of the 500 prisoners in Guantanamo foregoe their appeals and are denied due process. Some maybe criminals, some may be innocent. None the less, prisoners held in Guantanomo who have been detained, tortured, denied attorneys (then allowed legal council after fighting for that right), for the past four years battle is over for now.
Congress says the courts can no longer hear or review cases from Guantanamo. In other words, the President (and his cronies)have the right to keep them as long as they deem necessary, for what ever reason he wants. There will be no more legal counsel, no regulation on torture/psy-ops (as if there ever were)...
Despite overwhelming evidence that torture does not provide reliable information, the Executive branch in not so many words believes that torture works. Appearantly Constitutional law or International Law don't apply to this administration.
I guess it wouldn't even matter though b/c we've got Gonzalez as our Attorney General. Afterall, he's the one who helped script and draft the interogation rules. Paradoxically, he would ultimately be responsible for prosecuting the 'War Criminals.' The amazing thing is that the system is set up for the little guy to take the fall, while the top dawgs are void of all accountability and responsibility... but really where do the orders come from???
Basically, the CIA has been empowered the roll of Police, Jailer, Judge, Jury, and Executioner...
any thoughts fellas (and ladies?)
