what kind of mic, mic pre, and sound card are you usin...

just upgrade those for now and youll be able to have a decent feed to mix from... untill then, its kinda useless, and hella frustrating to fix a bad recording...

you can get a "acceptable" sound from a $200-500 mic, $100-300 pre, and a $150 audio sound card..

when i bought my first shit i was hella excited from the quality.. all i had was a rode nt1a, a bullshit ass 6 track behringer mixer, and a m-audio audiophile sound card...

after that i was like a dope head to get the best soundin shit, so none of that lasted long, but youll be surprized at how easy it is to eq and mix shit if you record it well

You really gotta do some research...Google is good for that. Go get yourself some recording magazines...theres this one called "Recording" really useful ...read an issue of that, and anything you don't understand or any piece of gear you don't know...go look it up in Google...and look at all the results that get returned you'll be amazed..trust me it works. I just typed in "Cool Edit Pro tips" into Google and got a lotta shit back. Here I'll get you started...this is about mic pre amps.

p.s
I also read somewhere that it's not a good idea to mix in headphones. Monitor yes..Mix...NO!
Happy learning! 1

Mixing with headphones is fine as long as you know what kind of sound they produce in comparison to other listening setups.

Also, everything your audio signal goes through is important so yes, the quality of your mixer is important. Just think of it like this... The quality of your audio signal will only be as good as the weakest link in it's path, which means a top-of-the-line mic running thru a piece of shit pre-amp, processor or mixer will result in a crappy recording.

i mean you can bypass the mixer all together... just go straight from your pre amp to your sound card... erry ony get there slef caught up in a mixer.. but if all your doin is recoring vocals, you can do just as well with out a mixer
