• September 2001: Popular 99.1 Jamz DJ Uncle Al (Albert Leroy Moss) is killed in his North Miami home.
It's a sad week all round as Miami mourns the loss of one of their own in Albert Moss aka DJ Uncle Al. Uncle Al was shot and killed last weekend (Sept 9th) although friends say he was killed by mistake.
Moss, 31, died Monday after he answered the door of the duplex home he split with an other disc jockey. Three men opened fire, hitting him in the hip, arm and side. He died in surgery after being rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. A friend of Moss, Roderick Lee, said the three assailants were looking for the other disc jockey _ whom authorities so far have identified only as Joe _ who lived in the other unit of the duplex. It seems that Joe was operating a hip hop pirate radio station from his apartment which was interfering with another pirate station's frequency.
Moss gained local fame as a guest jock on Luther Campbell's radio show with Miami radio station WEDR. He also mixed hundreds of original songs and produced nearly a dozen albums for the Miami bass scene, and mixed at underground radio stations and clubs.
