I have some crazy shit going on where the play button doesnt work but at the same time it just randomly turns itself on and off unless I lock it while its playing. Anyone know how to 1. reboot and 2. completely erase / reload an Ipod. Help me fix my possessed ipod.

two ways to do it:

connect it to your computer
when iTunes opens, select it under the 'source' sidebar
one of the options should be "restore"

or

open you latest iPod software update
"restore" should be one of the options

becareful tho.. sometimes the restore can lock up ur ipod.. it did to one of mine the firmware from before the restore was different than the one with the restore so everything was cool til it asked for me to plug it into the wall charger for it to complete the restore.... never got off from that screen since.

Thanks for the advice for those who replied. Its still locked up and turning on and off. My original thoughts were it is probably a defect but the people at the IPod store said I just have to restore settings and reset it. Guess I might have to send it in for waranty.
