I was reading up on Salvador Dali and I read this about one of his paintings

In 1962, Dalí said his painting was intended "to express for the first time in images Freud's discovery of the typical dream with a lengthy narrative, the consequence of the instantaneousness of a chance event which causes the sleeper to wake up. Thus, as a bar might fall on the neck of a sleeping person, causing them to wake up and for a long dream to end with the guillotine blade falling on them, the noise of the bee here provokes the sensation of the sting which will awaken Gala."
Now that has always been on my mind since I was a kid, but just recently I had an experience of this when I was asleep someone in my dream said something about "text message" and I woke up to getting a text message on my phone. I was wondering if anyone had any theories on this besides Freud's.

do you text a lot?...i had something similar to this i was taking melatonin to help me sleep and well one night i took some and smoked a bowl and laid on my side facing the door well i was laying there with my eyes closed and i started getting flashes and the flashes became stronger as they went on then i started seeing a blurry image at some point i opened my eyes because it was gettin a bit much to handle and when i'd close my eyes and again as the flashes continued the image started to get clear to a point where i could clearly and vividly see legs walking and the legs were walking towards my door and as the pair reached the door my roommate came walking in...i don't know what to make of it but it was interesting to say the least, it could be random....look up some stuff on your third eye it may or may not lead you to what your looking for

I rarely text, I was asleep and heard something about "texting" and I just woke up looking straight at my phone vibrating on my table. Good looking out tho, I'm gonna do some research on this.

yes...i always wake up for work right when i need to(and sometimes hear my normal alarm going right before i wake up, even tho my phone won't be on), even tho my schedule ranges from 4 in the morning to 9 am, like every day i have a different starting time, so its not like i was getting used to a schedule, plus i go to bed at different times, and rarely get the full 8 hours of sleep. but yeah i'll wake up perfectly on time to get ready for work if i forgot to set my alarm, its happened over 10 times in the past couple months.

oooh and i've also had dreams/messages tellin me about my paper thats due, even if im really tire dand i fell asleep on accident a couple hours later i'll wake up, still pretty tired but do my paper, and finish it right on time(im a horrible procrastinator)
oh and i've had that text dream numerous times, but i did text one of my friends a lot, so it wasn't that weird to me.

ive had a few instance of such thing. One that i remember clearly is this dream i had when i was young, in which i got in an arguement with this friend of mine, then he went to punch me in the back, and as he was swinging i remember flinching and then getting hit in my back and waking up. What happened was i fell off my bed onto my back and the hit of the punch happened as soon as my back hit the floor, and the flinching occured as i was in the air.

this has happened many times and it always amazed me.

shit like that happens to me all the time. Several times a week at least.

This reminds me of some funny shit that happened to me. I was on an airplane, flying to Mexico or some shit. Anyways, I was hungry as fuck, didn't eat for 24 hours or so. So I'm sitting there hella uncomfortable in my seat midway through the flight trying to catch some sleep, basically sitting straight up. I start dreaming about food, in particular a hamburger. In my dream I have this hamburger in my hand and i start to slowly put it towards my mouth. So I dreaming of this big hamburger coming towards my face. So what happens? I'm sitting there in my seat sitting straight up and I take a big ass bite out of the air! I woke up startled, look around to see if anyone noticed, sure enough this fine broad sitting across the aisle was staring right at me laughing! lol, I tried to play it off like I was yawning but she knew haha

(reminds me of that one guys sig with wish bone dreaming of the hamburger!)

Dali used to set up, i think it was silver ware - maybe a dish, so that when he would fall a sleep it would slip out of his hand and crash on the floor waking him up from his dream right away. That way he could remember what it was he was dreaming and start drawing and also to better reach that point between conscious thought and dreams.

Haha, I had that happen too, I was dreaming I was riding a bike and the handle bar broke and I woke up with my arms in the air and like in the position of falling off a bike that way.

Fuck that's clean. I gotta try that sometime. I also gotta start smoking again haha.

heres one theory:

you arent thinking about all the times (the heavy majority) there wasnt a coincidence, usually nothing remarkable happens, so of course this seems significant even if only by chance

This happened to me last night. I dreamed that I was in a car accident and when I collided with whatever(can't remember) I woke up. Turned out my brother was drunk and made a big hole in his wall. What seems to happen to alot is if I leave a tv or radio on when I'm sleeping it'll be in my dream. In one dream I was just chillin listening to music in my backyard...then I woke up and the same song was playing in my room. Another time I had the news on then in my dream I walked by a tv playing the news.
