sounds like your using some shitty CDRs. what brand are you using. please dont say memorex or HP?

also, depending on how many times you ahve burned CDRs, you amy need to jsut replace the burn drive itself. sounds like your a regular street pirate.

also, if anything check your preferences and make sure your burn rate is at 4x.

im not sure but you might want to convert your files as wav. files, and then burn them in perefenrces as a mp3 disc.

Can you burn with a third party burning software such as NERO?

Try lowering your burning speed to see if that helps
out. Try dropping your burn speed to, say, 12x or 8x.
I think it has to do with how much buffer your CD
drive has. Too little and the buffer overruns.

i forgot to mention also, im not sure if this is just itunes or other burn software but the more songs you have in the itunes library the more it weighs it down, when you are trying to open itunes itself and possibly when you are doing other functions like burning cds.

so the less tunes you got on the itunes the more smoother and better the itunes application will run overall.

it might be time to dump some songs in the library that you dont need or you dont care to listen.

this is a great start, not only that, but you will get a better quality burn by lowering it a couple notches. i think 4x is great, it might take extra time to burn, but the quality will be a whole lot better, when you put the disc into another cd player, it will read the disc better.

sorry, but one more thing is.

you want to first convert your files to a wav. file, then under preferences, go to the burn section and select 320 mps (this is the highest mp3, you can go to, without losing much quality on the songs).

after this, just go to the prefernces of burning and select 4x and mp3 disc.

it took me awhile also, to figure it out, but once done right, you will get a clean burn with fantastic qauality results that should be able to play in any cd player, and having the cd players laser pick up your cdr.
