There's a game engine out called Torque. I've been using it for about a year now. It's a powerful engine and easy to learn with NO prior experience. You don't need to know C++ although it will make your learning curve less curvy. It uses it's own language called Torque script. Just peep it for yourself. What they are doing is bringing back the indie game scene like back in the day. Making it easy for one or two man teams to make bomb ass games. The indie license is 100 dollars for individuals but much more for corporations with a gang of revenue.

This link is to the site. You can download a demo of the engine.

This is the book I bought. It comes with a slimmed down version of Torque , and it explains everything , assuming you know absolutely ZERO. It gives you everything you need to design a 3D game. By the time you finish the book you will have a complete game under your belt . I am at the end of this one.
1st BOOK

This is the second book I bought. It takes off from where the first book left off. No overlap either. you need to complete the first book. This one gets into the nitty gritty detail. More Artificial Intelligence. Sliding Doors. Breaking glass. It looks the same , but notice the title. But don't let the "Advanced" word scare you on this one, by the time you finish the first one....you will be "Advanced". And keep in mind that it starts off assuming you know ZERO about game programming.
2nd Book

You can create any type of game you like. There are pre made building, weapon and environment packs you can get to save you time. If you make beats the 1st book will show you how to include your music.

If anybody hops on this and needs help let me know . and there's a gang of tutorials at the Garage Games forums and a lot of people who know a whole lot more than I do. So far I haven't bought the complete engine, just what comes with the books. Thats all you need for now. By the way. Torque is compatible with the Upcoming X-Box 360 , PC's, Macs and Linux
(no playstation2 or 3).

yeah lets see your game....can we get a screenshot
I will when I'm done with the game in the book. I'm almost done, hopefully in less than a week, but that's not exactly a big deal because all I am doing is following the instructions in the book, word for word. But all that applies to my own ideas.

That's some raw shit. I've downloaded a few programs in an attempt to learn, but they too complex. A friend of mine is pretty good with flash gams but I'd like to make something more in depth. Someone make a Siccness game.... don't ask me how it would go except for kicking cyber punks virtual asses!

what programs are used? looks like bryce

What ever program you choose to do your modeling in. I use Maya 7 and 3Ds Max 8 for models and props, MilkShape 3D and Quark come with the book. It also depends on your lighting. Lighting and shadows are to games as mixing is to music....it can make it or break it. You can use Bryce for photorealistic backgrounds or Terragen. You can create and edit landscape within torque, or you can import height maps or DEM data (digital elevation models) say for instance you need the Grand Canyon or the Rocky Mountains in your game. You can get DEM's here. They're nice to look at if nothing else.
