Last week the announced 10 new processors and released 5 desktop versions. The other 5 are laptop models. It's way faster than the Pentium D, and the Core Duo...the low end one beats( E6300 )AMDs High end processor straight out the box with no overclocking. AMD alos cut pricess on all there's at about 50% because of this. . Here's the Intel lineup.
Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93GHz 4MB Cache
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz 4MB Cache
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz 4MB Cache
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz 2MB Cache
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86GHz 2MB Cache
You can get an AMD 5000+ (their fastest chip) for around 350 or so...down from the 900 dollar neighborhood overnight. They are still good chips.
The reason I posted this is because alot of people I have been coming across away from the internet doesn't know what kind of power is available to them. This is really good Music wise for those of you who utilize a lot of effects and plugins. And now that you can put these in a Mac...alot of you could benifit from the extra power. I'm going with the E6600. You can overclock that one to perform like the X6800 with ease. I've been using the "Freeze" function for my plugins and instruments in Cubase SX 3 a lot lately. Don't think I'll have to worry about that anymore.
