By law, does an informant HAVE to be mentioned on the case report? What I'm trying to say is that there are snitches out there that try to get away by pointing at the paper-work showing how there is no informants in the case, but the streets are sure that someone had to have snitched. Is there any way snitches can make deals for their name or anything indicating they snitched off the paper-work? From what I know and all the cases I been involved with, this isn't possible, but you never know, that's why I want to know if there are any special circumstances that the authority makes for certain snitches that get scared and shit....

You're not thinking about snitching, are you?

Nah, j/k - not sure, US law would be different than Australian law in that respect though so I'm pretty useless to you really...

No matter how secret you think informants can be, it MUST be documented somewhere. The person being indicted may not have direct access to it right away, but sooner or later they or their attorney will.

Imagine if I went and secretely informed a sheriff of something you didn't do. Do you really think they can prosecute you without me taking a testimonial, whether it be on the stand or not? Of course not.

sometimes it's just info though, they can tell where evidence is and shit, they don't need no documenation for that......it will refer to person as CI, John Doe, or some shit like that.....

Yea that's pretty much what I'm talking about. The informant that will give names, not even for a particular crime, just names and clues. Can they take all these names and clues down without citing on any official papers who it was from?
