i have 3 classes left and will receive my BS in Business Administration with a concentration in HR Management from CSU Stanislaus....i will finish those classes in the fall. my question is, has your degree helped you to get a job or position or salary that u wanted? do u feel that your degree is paying off, or will pay off for you in your career? im already at wells fargo, and have good oppurtunity to move up, but i will also test waters else where to see if i can get more pay. i feel that a degree should give u a leg up on other people, but these days, its hard to get a good paying, space to move up job. so let me know what u think

a degree is coo i guess..i go to college off and on.. its just intresting that the top 3 rich people in the world dont have degrees and are college drop outs.. its either the top 3 or top 2. but either way, furthering your education is all good so if it dont help you financially it will benefit you mentally..

i wouldnt say that my degree gave me my current job. What got me my current job was my desire and love for what i do. I had that before i got into college. The degree was just a boost.

But a lot of people need that 4 year degree, not only for whatever they're studying, but for the General Education. Justs give them a preview of whats out there, other than what they're studying.

I don't got a degree, but having that paper does help. It doesn't even matter what it is, in some cases, but having that paper can mean the difference. Especially in intelligence and defense related jobs. I got family that works in those career fields and having a degree is definitely a MUST if you want to get in any intelligence or defense career field, regardless of what the degree is in.

I graduate next spring at CSU-Hayward in Accounting and I've noticed that most real good jobs require at least a BS. Nowadays it seems like everyone is receiving a degree so it really comes down to your connections. Hopefully you've been networking through clubs at your school.

^ my lil bro graduated CSU-hayward in accounting

he got into a firm and passed his CPA and now works for one of the big 5 firms. So you can do things with the piece of paper, no matter where its from just as long as you have it.

It helps and the experience in the field helps more, the degree will get you into a higher position!

Top 3 rich people maybe college drop-outs but what percent is that of most rich people who don't have a degree? There's a lot of factors to how they got their money, damn near most rich people inherit money from wealthy probably educated ancestors. It's not about how many rich people who have no degree, it's how many poor people who have no degree. What's the numbers on that? 10,000 for rich and 180 Mil poor in the US? It's alll about connections, talent and luck (lottery etc).

A bachelor helps but if you want to be assured, get that MBA. Shaq did it.

I'm almost finished, in 4 months I'll have my bachelor of biotechnology with honours - but as several people have been suggesting, it's seriously not what you know but who you know. The questions you asked in the original post should have been asked several years ago before you started your degree - with 3 classes left they're kinda obsolete at this stage.

You definately don't need a degree to make money, but if you have to get one in order to do what you love, then get one - I love science, and theres no way I could get a decent job in a laboratory without a degree, so I'm on my way to getting one. If you love something that doesn't require a degree, then it's pointless getting one just because it might make you more money - money aint worth shit if you don't love what you do.

yea, good input all....and as far as the "make sure your doing something you love" line, i dont really buy it. cuz unless there is a job out there thats gonna pay you for sitting on your ass all day, smoking weed and playing video games, im not gonna love my job.. i dont care what the job is, as long as im making good cash, ill survive. and my thaughts on it is, if your in a big company, theres gonna be a certain point in the position ladder where they are gonna tell you a degree is required. so i figure in the long run (maybe 5 to 10) years, the degree will pay off cuz it should make moving up the ranks a little bit easier. and i am well aware a degree is not required to be successful and make good money, but i feel it increases your chances 10 fold by having that little paper. good feedback people

true, it's almost impossible getting a job doing something you actually love, but if the degree helps you get a job which you hate less than every other job then thats all you can ask for. As I said before though, if you don't like what you do then don't do it, money doesn't make the world go round. Regardless though, it's good to see you realise that there is more to life than getting high and playing video games - however much money you make after getting that peice of paper, you deserve it (cause it ain't fucking easy getting it!)

by good job, do you mean a job that pays a lot or one that is actually good?

You can take my last post as a preach greg, but if you live to make money then you might as well end your life right now. And what are you gonna spend that money on? Thats whats wrong with the world right now, materialistic fucks trying to get their hands on as much cash as they can just so they can go and waste it on shit they don't even need. Seems you got the greedy right in greedygreg

Good point. But if you take a look at the statistics, people with higher education get higher pay than those with out. Chances for getting a good paying job are higher for those with education which heavily out weigh those with out...Since you like to speak from experience, I have family who are high school drop outs and most with high school diplomas who have shitty ass paying jobs. They are in their mid 20's to early 30's and at most getting paid $50K a year and at least $15K/YR. Now, I have sister who has an MBA and recently applied for job after 2 years of no work while being a housewife and taking care of her 2 new-borns. She got over $80K to start-off in her new job, she wanted to test the market to see what she was still worth and damn she's worth a lot despite no work experience the past 2-3 years...

I assumed you were dissin, you know, when people say 'quit your fucking preaching' n shit. He who dies with the most wins - classic! I might have to quote that one
