learn how to blend records and switch tracks with no pause, put in work on them tables so your mixes sound smooth and tight. Then worry about getting gigs.

any advice on
house parties, clubs etc..
use turntables and not cd players

watch dj videos and youll pick up some moves and techniques

the main thing is..practice practice practice

and when u get into doing shows, have a few routines...or sets that are creative and throw some entertainment/comedy/etc into it

the more practice you have the more your personality will come out on the wheels

oh yeah and buy quality shit from the jump..people will tell you dont go quality until you know you want to do it for sure, but start off with good shit and not belt drive turntables and a shitty gemini mixer or somethin

and dont get high on xanax and break your turntables like me

best real advice right there, and get the hot songs quickly. mix for your audience not yourself. if you play nothing but underground bayarea rap you will definatly flop even if you go to one of those parties cuz 90% of the girls at the party wont dance to the shit

On the reals, if you're really determined then do it. But make sure you styles in music aren't limited to just one genre.

Anyone can be a DJ nowadays but it all depends on how well you mix tracks together. I've seen way too many DJ's spin hot shit but not know how to blend the beats good.

It's not about scratching either, do don't kill it

Play the hits homie, like Ramon Ayala and Los Bukis. You can't go wrong...
might ass well "slap" some Bronco in there somewhere, fade out then add some Pandora

well i got the whole equipment as a whole, so im stuck with some of the equipment i dislike, but its pretty decent,

i never really heard about the routines, but im gonna check that out

still confused about the whole dj personality thing, but ill see what i find

best real advice right there, and get the hot songs quickly. mix for your audience not yourself. if you play nothing but underground bayarea rap you will definatly flop even if you go to one of those parties cuz 90% of the girls at the party wont dance to the shit
yeah, I allready started compiling a bunch of songs i dislike, but are big in the radio

what about house parties in the rough neighborhoods

watchall think of those

That's where I earned my stripes!

Really though man check the studio forum. There have been threads on this already. And again I'll mention in here like I did in the other threads, there are different kinds of DJs so it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

DJ's now got it easy tho with the internet. Any songs u want are at your fingertips instantly whereas you used to hafta go out and hunt for shit.

i was never into commercial hiphop until i started doing parties. there are some cheater ass records that have the bpm's printed on the record. they helped a lot when just doing a party on short notice without a play list. kinda gay i know but they all have an extended break before and after the song so it's easier to mix. haha i know it's gay as hell but cheaper than buying doubles of a 12" record i'm only gonna use at a few parties.
